Academic Renewal

I had a D in one of my transferable class more than 1 year ago. If i do an Academic Renewal to delete it off my transcript, how's that going to work? I already submit the class on my UC application and i got into UCD, so when i send in the official transcript to the school and they dont see that class on my transcript are they going to reject me for input something wrong?

I am in a similar situation as you. Once you do an academic renewal, the grade gets wiped off, but the class stays on the transcript (it will say academic renewal instead of the grade). As for if the UCs would reject you, I would doubt it but in truth I have no idea.

Academic Renewal is different, depending on your community college. Usually, it gets rid of the D, but also all the other classes you took with it that semester/quarter. So, if you also took 3 other classes and received A’s, then they would get AR as well. It’s Academic Renewal for a reason. But like i said, it depends on your community college.

And yes, you should notify UCD. Your application should match up with your transcript exactly, even if classes do not transfer, you should’ve still included those as well. I’ve heard horror stories before. Do not take a gamble.

Lol I have never heard of AR wiping an entire semester of grades off your transcript. That’s ridiculous. I have done it with 2 classes and it simply changes your transcript from saying a D or F next to the class to AR. It will merely change your GPA for the better. I would just let admissions at UCD know of the change so they’re aware of what to expect on your transcript.

^It depends on the CCC. Some policies wipe the whole semester.

@ killmyentourage: One of the things I’ve always been concerned about is how grad schools will look at Academic Renewal. Any insight into what they think?

I have 3 AR grades from my first semester at CCC. I’ve always been worried that those 3 classes will end up hurting me in the long run :p.

Thanks!

That’s such a terrible rule and what a waste of a semester. My roommate’s CC only allows you to “refresh” your grades one time… meaning you have to take all the classes over and then AR them in one shot, but you only get one chance. I hope AR doesn’t look bad to grad schools because I would like to go also  I have a really sloppy record from my 4-yr school in 2006.

hey guys, i went to my counselor today and she gave me a form to fill out. So basically i can delete the D but the class will remain there with an AR (academic renewal) instead of a letter grade. so my gpa will be a bit higher. AR wont take off a whole semester in my case. At my CCC i just need to have 15 semester unit after that bad grade and have a 2.5 gpa and it have to be 1 year since i took that class which i also qualified. YAY no more D ^.^
