Does academic renewal take off all grades with a ‘D’ or lower, or only transferable classes? I’m planning on transferring to a UC, is it better to just repeat the course with a better grade, or use academic renewal? Do UC’s look at grades that aren’t transferable and don’t reflect your UC GPA?
Academic renewal can vary depending on your CC.
It is the policy of the UC system to use a repeat of D/F grades for they new grade. For example, if you get a D in Spring 2014, and make it up Fall 2015, the Fall grade counts instead.
When transferring though, does academic renewal look bad, or would they rather see the course repeated?
No, academic renewal would NEVER look bad. It will only help you!
Which CC do you go to? Some take out entire semesters, some allow you to get rid of failing grades, or grades that are greater than so many years old…
I go to Diablo Valley College, I think they only take out failing grades. My failed classes I’ve already repeated them, or am in the process, so I’m unsure if I should still do academic renewal if I’ve already made them up.
Eh… you probably don’t need to, but it wouldn’t HURT you.
Thanks for your help
Sure thing, good luck!
Please come back and let us know how it goes

I wrote that each CCC has its own policy in determining if only individual course grades are part of AR, or if you lose an entire term. Then I saw it was already posted. I don’t like to repeat.
