Academic Suspension Appeal Letter Feedback, Please Help!

Positive or Negative Feed Back Helps!

To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing this appeal to request reinstatement of my education at the University of Washington Bothell for Spring Quarter 2014. It would be very important to me that you reinstate me for next quarter. I accept that I have been having a very difficult time in many different quarters as my grades suffered as a result putting myself on academic probation twice. I registered for a very challenging course for myself such as CSS 161 for my intended major in computer science, this major also required high level of math which was also very demanding. I thought I was able to handle the work, except that my grandmother, who has suffered from diabetes for many years, was recently diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer and has been considerably ill and unable to take care of herself. While she was unable to take of herself, I had to drive home every day to take care of housework while taking care of my grandmother. Aside from school and taking care of my family I also work a part time job to help take care of my family financially. Driving home took around an hour to an hour and a half and working a part time job has also taken a toll on my study time as well as my chores at home. This situation has limited my time to seek help from the resources at school to help aid my struggles in the courses I have previously taken, such as seeking help from the Quantitative Skills Center and my Professors.

My grandmother has been recovering gradually and is able to take care of herself now and I have spoken with my boss at work to give me fewer hours at work so that I am able to focus on my education at school, so I do not need to travel home as often. Given a lot more time I can now to stay on campus where I can fully give my school work all of my attention and to use the universities’ resources such as Quantitative Skills Center to study for my courses. After experiencing academic probation I understood that I should have communicated with my professors about my situation and getting help when I did poorly in their courses rather than avoiding them, I was isolated and thought that I could do everything on my own but I was wrong. After meeting with my advisor, I will follow her advice and spend more time to meet with my professors from now on.

My course of action if reinstated for Spring Quarter 2014 is to primarily manage my time more effectively by going to the Quantitative Skills Center every day for at least two hours minimum since my projected schedule for the quarter I will be on campus every day. After being comfortable receiving help from the Quantitative Skills Center, I will study for another two hours minimum by myself in the upper for of the library where it is quiet so that there will be no distractions. I will stop being afraid of meeting with my professors and seek help with them by scheduling a minimum of two meetings with them per quarter, I will meet with them more depending on the situation of the course. Since my situation has changed I have decided on a new major I have decided to change my direction to major in Interactive Media Design and minoring in Business Administration since I have many courses taken to reach these majors that have become my new academic goals to succeed in these areas. From this point on the only obstacles I see that will be affecting me is having to spend more time at home than on campus.
Please understand that my low GPA that led to my dismissal does not indicate that I am a bad student, because my situation has changed and I legitimately believe that I will be able to make academic progress in the coming quarter, I am requesting your reconsideration of this issue and I hope you will give me a second chance Thank you for your time and consideration of this appeal.
Sincerely,
