Academic Weight Factor

I'm a canadian student going into grade 11, unfortunately, my grades from grade 9 and 10 arnt the greatest (nothing below a 75)
Im worried that my slacking off in the first two high school may have costed me my dream of going into a top university in the states.
Will thoose marks count for a lot? What can I do to make my chances better?

thanks in advance:)

I wouldn’t really worry about this until you finnish Grade 11 (Or even first semester G12) because ALOT could happen in between these 2 years.

But to answer your question, no it doesn’t really matter that much, unless you didn’t take any APs, have ****ty SAT scores or have 0 EC’s.

From what I’ve read it seems to be:

SAT>CGPA>EC’s=Common App>Everything Else

If it’s a top 10 school then expect:

EC’s=Common App>Class Rank>SATs (since only people with more than 2200 have a realistic chance anyway and by then a 2300 vs a 2200 wouldn’t make a HUGE difference unless the EC’s are similar).

Obviously it does hurt your chances, but if you can pull it together in Grade 11 and 12, and do well on the other parts of your application, you could still get into a great university.
