Academically Dismissed. What schools may still take me?

Hello, I'm an undergraduate student who attended the University of Florida for two semesters. I was academically dismissed with something close to a 1.3 in terms of GPA. This was devastating to me because I came in after a very strong run during high school, like admitted to ivy leagues strong - but had been struggling with a few mental illnesses that I'm finally just now am working on resolving. I got into UF and the Honors College and then flunked out. :((

I applied for readmission and was denied, am planning on attempting to appeal and/or applying to another college within the university. If those don't work out I am planning on attending a CC for two years to get my AA and then transferring to another school.

All the counsellors within the school I've talked to so far have been very sympathetic and understanding, but I'm left without a real idea of how to proceed?

What universities will accept a CC transfer student without a letter of good standing with the university she previously attended?

Is there maybe like a list of universities that don't need a letter of good academic standing??

Are they all bad schools?

Do I have to stay within the state?

If you prove yourself at CC there will be no problem finding a university that will give you a second chance.

Thank you for your input!

Hit a home run at cc and schools may even offer you scholarships. That said, you will inevitably meet school admissions that don’t offer second chances and only go by cumulative gpa. As long as your flexible with your school choices you’ll be fine.

Source: personal experience (also Ivy League strong hs graduate, flunked out of my first school way worse than you did, been riding 4.0 pre and post transfer now, 99 credits)

Great advice you’ve been given OP. @da60net way to go!! Good for you and continued success.

I agree with @da6onet. I started out at a CC, and I got accepted to the college I want to transfer to. I also got a scholarship that is renewable each year if I keep my GPA at a 3.0 or higher. I wasn’t academically dismissed or anything, but the college I plan on going to only looked at my transcripts from the CC, so hopefully it’s the same for you! Good luck!

The same thing happened to me. Depression hit me hard and it culminated in me being dismissed as well. I’ve since returned to a community college and done very well. I was even just recently re-admitted to the school that dismissed me in the first place. So it can be done!

Thank you! I was completely freaking out after the readmission denial. #:-S I definitely was not ready to go to college so young and inexperienced, and learned the hard way that taking a semester or year off probably would have been a better idea. I’m kind of excited to start up school again now that I’m more stable and your input really kind of put things in perspective that this isn’t the end of the world! :>
