Hi, here are my first (what I originally sent to Penn) and second quarter grades…

AP English Lit…A / A
AP Calc AB…B+ / A (I came back with a vengeance, hah)
AP Physics B…A-/A-
AP Env. Sci…A/A
H. Concert Band…A/A

I recieved a 770 on the December SAT II Lit test, which I already sent them. I also sent my regional officer two well-written letters stating my strong interest in attending. There is only so much I felt I could do in a month, but is there anything else I should have done to increase my chances? Is there anything else I can still do? I would absolutely love to attend. Thank you.

i think u showed them that u still really wanna go there and ur grades went up so thts basically all u can do. i wish u good luck:O) and itll all be for the best!

I got deferred. I sent them a well-written letter and had my friend from Wharton write me an evaluation. My grades for first and second semester are listed below:

I improved overall in every class. I did decently on my midterms. I also think I got a good rec from my guidance counsellors. I retook the SAT II's in January and had them rushed. My old math 2c was 710; I retook 800. I also took Spanish for the first time and got 740. This changed from SAT II average from 700 to 750. I have a 750-m, 750-v SAT I. Any idea on my chances for acceptance after being deferred in December? Also, idk if this is a big deal but I'm from NJ. I'm white. So I don't really have geography or ethnicity working for me in admissions.

I believe that they will see the fact that you worked hard and your grades improved. Colleges like to see an upward trend. you have a better shot than you did the first time. :)

With that kind of rank, you're fine for ANY school.. so it will not be the grades that gets you out... they are totally fine... try to focus on strengthening your other areas such as ECs, interviews, essays, recs.. even though youcan't do much about them now, you can still send in additional material via fax to accentuate your strenths and cover up your weaknesses.

I was deferred ED and feel I'm in the same boat as the other two who posted their stats on here.
Deferred... and then for the Mid-Yearsent in straight A's from all College Level/AP's...number 2/100 with some additional letters of interest and reference...why do i feel like we all had similar records with one or two things missing?
It'd be nice to get in- but this 10-15% statistic can be a fright...and if so, i'll let dear old Penn go.

same here brocky. i'm probably not 2 (we don't rank). i recently found out i'm def 1-2% out of 500ish kids, so that's good news.

in ANY case, if penn doesn't want me i'll just go elsewhere... it's such an abusive relationship. like a guy who keeps chasing a girl and the girl is soo annoyed and won't have anything to do w/ the guy.

You look like you're in good shape, but there are so many applicants who do all the right things after being deferred that I can't really say how good your chances really are.

Unfortunately, I haven't won any awards or honors in the past couple of months, but I might get an acting award on Saturday (but that's really up to chance).

Actually, the only way I have contacted Penn since the deferral was through letters to my regional admissions officer/director, so I will send another letter to that person tomorrow. I think this will be effective because the regional officer is the one at Penn who knows you best and is able to talk about you in committee.

personally, i think soon they're going to be going through decisions.. like.. mid-march
so i dunno. it might be too late. idk. if u do nething do it quickly
