Acceptance chances to San Jose State University

SAT: math: 640 reading/writing: 600 total: 1240
G.P.A: 3.67
My eligibility index is 4200
Based on my stats, would I be accepted into SJSU for either computer science, computer engineering, or software engineering? These majors are competitive at SJSU, and I feel like I might be rejected, but I’m not sure. SJSU is my first choice.
I’m taking the SAT one more time, which will hopefully increase my chances.

Here is the EI threshold’s for last years SJSU Freshman class. SJSU like all Cal States (except SLO) admit by eligibility index and major.

EI for CS was 4500, so no chance
EI for CE was 4100, so yes you have a chance
EI for SE was 3900, definitely have a chance.

EI thresholds do fluctuate from year to year and SJSU does consider alternate majors so apply to both CE and SE.

You asked your chances on another thread and I gave you the same information. Raise your SAT score by 300 points and then CS is possible.

@Gumbymom

When I’m applying to SJSU, I am only allowed to choose CS, CE, or SE for my major. It will not let me choose any of the 3 as an alternate major since “This major did not have enrollment capacity to admit alternate majors”.
Therefore I need to select the major that I will most likely get into since I don’t have an alternate major option.
I am not sure whether I should just go for SE. What do you think?

You are above the CE and SE thresholds. SE would probably a solid choice since it is highly unlikely that the EI threshold will jump 200-300 points for 2018 Fall admissions. It really depends upon if you are more interested in strictly Software/Coding or would you like a combination of Hardware and Software courses.

Here is the 4 year Road Map for CE and SE. Compare the 2 curriculums and see which fits you best.

Really? Where can I get this information about the new admission guideline. Please give me the link, if you have one.
Thanks! @haydenscrub

Unfortunately, that new poster seems to not be legitimate, @sravya107.

@sravya107: Agree this poster is not giving legitimate information. The only thing that SJSU has changed about their admissions for this year is the modified EI calculation for any majors in the College of Engineering which puts a higher emphasis on your SAT or ACT Math scores.
