Acceptance Delay

I find it ridiculous that the University of Pittsburgh takes as long as it does to accept students. My son applied in November 2017. He was told that they were waiting for his ACT scores. The scores have been out since December 19th and still he has heard nothing. He contacted admissions who said a decision will be made soon. When he applied at Pitt he also applied at 3 other Private schools. He received acceptance letters along with scholarships within 2 weeks, all without his ACT scores. Why does Pitt take so long? I find this ridiculous.

5 1/2 weeks isn’t that unreasonable (from ACT score release). The waiting is definitely hard though! My d is waiting for one more acceptance (hopefully) and that won’t be until February… 5 months of waiting.

The Christmas break started around the time that Pitt would have received the ACT scores.

They just started back on 1/8.

So it’s only been about 2 weeks since his application was complete.

I am not sure how it can be considered as “ridiculous” when your kid completed the application right before the holiday and it is now only about a month out. Look at the Rutgers thread, many kids are waiting for the result. In addition, you applied in November, why did you send the scores in December ? Does Pitt promise anywhere that an applicant will get the result in 2 weeks or less? Does Pitt promise you that Pitt will make the decision with the ACT score? (What other schools do is irrelevant).

BTW, we applied on 12/15 and just saw the button on the apps yesterday.

That is strange, I have always considered Pitt one of the fastest on handing back a decision! Good Luck!

Pitt may be fast in making a decision, but they have no obligation (and as far as I know, they did not make promises) to make a decision within a month during a major holiday and it is not “ridiculous”.
