I was wondering what you were thinking!!! ;)

I’m getting a little unenthusiastic myself. Clemson has been my dream school all the way through high school, but being OOS finances have always been an issue. I already received full-tuition scholarship offers from Auburn, Tennessee, and Ole Miss and I’m mostly covered at South Carolina.

As much as it pains me, if Clemson doesn’t come through I may end up a Gamecock.

That’s the same thing we’ve experienced and are starting to feel about CU. :/
(^^^ collegeboundTN) Plus, we’ve already been told S is accepted into the honors programs/colleges at those where already applied and accepted.

that’s probably the worst thing about Clemson that is unfortunately turning people away from Clemson and towards USC, financial aid at Clemson sucks and they don’t give enough scholarships or aid to students. Compare this to USC who gives out lots of scholarships.

To all the parents out there-mentor your kids to not fall in love with the school they heard from first or who offered the most $$$ earliest. Being a veteran of this process (two college juniors, one high school senior) I can tell you from personal experience that often the best choice is the last notification. My daughter didn’t hear from the school she ended up attending (BC) until March 30th. Up until then she had brainwashed herself into attending another school where she would have been a presidential scholar. One walk on the campus of the BC and she knew it was the “perfect fit”. It’s important to keep a totally open mind. By doing so your child will avoid being a sophomore transfer.

BTW, most Northeastern schools in the Boston area do not notify until March 30th so Clemson is early be comparison!

And believe me, I would MUCH rather have been spending Feb break at Clemson than at UIUC…brrrrr!

I’d feel better if we could just check the app online, rather than getting an email that basically said they’d received the application and would let us know when it’s complete or if they needed anything. In other words, don’t call us, we’ll call you.

AVHS Dad - When the application file is entirely completed, they will mail or e-mail (I forget which) you a “CUID” (Clemson University ID) which you use to apply to the Honors College and whatnot. If your child hasn’t received one, then there may be something missing.

pierre - I noticed this too. The valedictorian of my school’s class of 2009 ended up at Clemson, but, as I recall, received no scholarships with a 4.5-ish GPA and 30 ACT.

On the other hand, another kid from last year’s class received the OOS waiver with a 3.7 and a 27. There just doesn’t seem to be rhyme or reason, and the wait is killing me.

^ same situation as AVHS Dad,
we received a postcard in the mail basically saying
“we got your app and scores, thanks for the interest, your app will get careful consideration, you will here from us week of Feb. 15.”
visit our website for campus news and info, for inquiries refer to app id# xxxxxx.

there seems no place online to use that app id# to get any info (short of sending an email)

I know there’s a lot of unnecessary confusion in the office of admissions and financial aid. Unfortunately Clemson doesn’t have an online system to check your application system (one of those computer science majors needs to make that happen). Last year I was even more frustrated because I never received a postcard saying my application was received or completed.

CollegeboundTN, you don’t receive a CUID until you are accepted to Clemson so I’m not exactly sure what you are talking about (or maybe I’m wrong or they have a new process this year). The reason the valedictorian didn’t receive the OOS scholarship is that the minimum ACT score necessary is a 31 (and he/she got a 30). I find it hard to believe that the person with a 27 ACT got an OOS scholarship, he must have received some other scholarship or might not be honest with his statistics.

I can assure you though that Clemson is not at all one of those schools that draws you in with promotional material and then forgets about you once you have payed your tuition. We were ranked #20 in the country for having the best administration in the country. While Clemson doesn’t send a lot of college promotional materials, and isn’t very clear in the admissions and financial aid process, once you arrive on Clemson, the administrators are very helpful and willing to talk with you about whatever you need. The president lives right on campus near the high rises and he keeps close contact via email with the students, he even recently held a town hall meeting. I would say that President Barker is one of the most open college presidents in the country. There’s not much of the red tape here that you will find at other large public schools. Some people may have a problem with decisions the administration has made but in my opinion, our administration is among the best in the country.

We have actually gotten a fair amount of Clemson promotional material compared to other schools my son has applied to. We got one of those 5x7 size 6-7 page things in the mail the other day. It seems like we get one every few weeks. We are very anxious to hear whether he is accepted, but he is also waiting to hear from a couple of other schools in Feb too.

We are keeping our fingers crossed on the merit aid thing as I doubt we will make the trip out to visit if he doesn’t get financial help.

Pierre0913 thank you so much for your consistent replies on this site. If my son does get accepted I will have lots of questions for you as we are going to visit most likely. We will be coming from Colorado and I am not sure how to get to Clemson! It isn’t the easiest school to get to which concerns me.

oh wow they must have stepped it a lot then, I don’t remember getting a lot of mail from Clemson last year.

best of luck to your son on getting accepted!! (and hopefully a good financial aid/scholarship package as well!)

My son applied. We only received the post card that they have our application and to wait for feb.15th response. They must be interested in your son. We don’t think my son will be getting in.

donna54, we are in the same boat. Postcard only. Probably means our DS isn’t high on their list.

i highly doubt that means they aren’t interested

Well I didn’t receive that much mail from Clemson, just the postcard that my application was received (which I got a whole month after I applied). However I know some people that filled out an interest form at college fairs at the Clemson table or other people who requested more information on the Clemson website that received periodic booklets and even got a academic catalog after applying so I think you just have to request more information to get more info, but I could be wrong.

I think you are right Pierre 0913.

Yes, I agree. We met with the Clemson rep in CT months ago and have been getting lots of promotional materials (more than any other school) since then so I think this only means that we are on a particular mailing list. I doubt is has anything to do with interest in my D or they would have already sent the official acceptance to go with the provisional acceptance and saved themselves the printing/postage on the promo materials.

And kudos to Pierre0913 for all the inside info…we catch you on the Engineering thread as well. Thanks!

Thanks for this insight.

by the way ESPN College Basketball GameDay was at Clemson today!! Can’t wait for the game tonight vs. Duke, hopefully the game will be close, Littlejohn will be rocking as usual and we will be able to pull off the win! Hope all of us were loud this morning on TV because the production crew kept telling us to shut up because we were too loud! haha
