Hi all,

I was wondering, does Rice accepts external recommendations? I would like my research mentor to submit a recommendation that may know a different side of me from the ones my academic teachers wrote.

Also, does Rice have an online portal that allows you to submit additional supplement materials after you have submitted your commonapp application?

Thank you very much!

Rice has an online tracking system, but you cannot submit additional materials online. You can mail them if you want. If you believe that the extra recommendation adds a completely different side and you want it to be included in your application, then send it to admissions. (I believe there might be a spot on the common app supplement for this stuff too, but I don’t remember from last year.) Here’s what admissions has to say on the subject:

7. May I submit supplemental materials with my application?
“You may augment your application with additional materials if you wish, but we ask you to be selective in what you include. Think about adding to the quality, not the quantity, of your application. You are welcome to submit additional class work, lab work, slides through a Power Point file limited to 10MB, newspaper articles, etc. Please note that supplemental materials should be 2-dimensional, fit an 8½” x 11" format and will not be returned."

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

I would like to ask about mailing address. At the bottom of the undergraduate admission page, there is this address.

6100 Main, Houston, Texas 77005-1827

Mailing Address: P.O. Box 1892, Houston, Texas 77251-1892

May I know if the mailing address is just “P.O. Box 1892, Houston, Texas 77251-1892” or is it the whole thing? Sorry, I am not too familiar with US addresses.

The Rice Admissions mailing address is:

Office of Admission-MS 17
P.O. Box 1892
Houston, Texas 77251-1892

adamb is correct. The PO box is the Post Office box number and the zip code is where it is located.

I could have sworn that the deadline for any additional supplements (art/music/etc.) had passed… I searched on the website but couldn’t find anything, so I may be wrong. Can someone point me in the right direction to the deadline date?

All materials being sent by the applicant must be postmarked by the deadline.
