I have been looking on their admissions website and can't find any information on it. According to Common App, they don't, but I just want to make sure. Thank you. :)

I believe you can, but it isn’t really required. Why do you feel that you need/want to submit one?

@Antarius I have been doing an internship since 11th grade and feel the person who coordinates can really speak about my character in a way that my teachers and counselor wouldn’t be able to because I am was the 1st intern and am now 1 of 12 interns working for her company.

I would recommend reaching out to Rice and asking them. They might give you an indication of whether it will help, and if so, how much. I cant imagine it would hurt you, because unlike Stanford? Rice doesn’t specifically tell you not to send one.

If you do call them/email them and ask, please let us know what they say.

I’d also be a bit interested in this, so please tell me what you find out!

I was thinking about the same thing when I ran into this thread. Did you call Rice? If so, could you share what you found out?

@suhuwi No, sorry! I decided not to apply to Rice after all.

oops!
Okay thanks anyways

@suhuwi - It seems there isn’t a consistent answer as to whether Rice wants or likes extra reco letters. They do not outright say no, like Stanford for example. I sent in an extra myself and still got in, for what its worth.

@Antarius Thanks for your message! I asked a summer school prof. and my debate coach to send extra RL for me as I think these help build my package. Hope the AOs think the same!

I also sent one from my mentor at my internship. I am doing cancer research at NIH and have been since the summer before 11th grade, so she could really speak knowledgeably about what I was like in that challenging environment. I read it, and it was a really great rec. She emailed it to them, and I’m not sure if they read it or not, but I was admitted ED so it didn’t hurt, at least.
