Acceptance rate up 9%

The Freshman class seems to be bigger, but I mean, 51% acceptance doesn't scream selective and now we're up to 60%? In the matter of a year? It seems a bit abrupt to me, particularly with our recent fall in the US News Rankings.

Maybe there was a stronger applicant pool this year or a lower yield due to the recession, I'm just wondering if anyone could shed some light on the situation.

It could mean that there were fewer applications, so that a higher percentage was required to fill the seats.

I just got accepted and I only applied a few days back :S
I still haven’t submitted my transcripts or even my commonapp supplement.
I don’t know this is possible, but I’m not really complaining :)

The 9% is probably just there because not as many students applied as they hoped, and the school knew that the yield would be lower. A lot of schools had a jump in acceptance in the past year due to the applicant pool not being as large.

Yield was lower due to the economy…that’s all…

This is a school I would have liked to have applied to but didn’t due to the late notice of knowing this was the only school that required two teacher rec’s. I knew it would have been unlikely for one of my teacher to do the rec in so short of a time.
