Hello, I applied regular decision and I’m trying to figure out my chances of getting into the university. I am a bit skeptical about online scattergrams since all of them seem to have different information or very few documented cases. I’m sure other students applying are having difficulty finding out a good source as well, so I thought it would be a good idea to make a thread here. For those who applied early decision, if you wouldn’t mind telling your grade and SAT/ACT scores and the decision. Thank you.
My scored were
3.88 unweighted GPA
650 SAT Math
560 SAT Writing
550 SAT Reading
still pending decision, hopefully will be accepted.
If you want a raw number, you probably have about a 35.3% chance of getting accepted (https://www.google.com/search?q=unviersity+of+rochetser+acceptance+rate&oq=unviersity+of+rochetser+acceptance+rate&aqs=chrome..69i57.4859j0j1&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#q=university+of+rochester+acceptance+rate&spell=1)
The reason you have difficult finding a good “source” is because there is no formula to tell whether or not you get accepted. A 2400 on the SAT isn’t getting in automatically, and a 1500 on the SAT isn’t getting rejected automatically. However, if you want it in perspective, your math score is the 25th percentile of accepted UR students, your writing score is below the 25th percentile of accepted UR students (620), and your reading score is below the 25th percentile of UR students (600). This would mean that over 75% of the accepted students have higher SAT scores than you. Use that as you will. In addition, GPA’s are ambiguous and completely meaningless without context. I cannot tell what your 3.88 means without your high school profile (which is sent to all colleges by your guidance counselor). Does your school do a simple 4,3,2,1 for A’s, B’s, C’s, and D’s? Or is it more complicated with +'s and -'s? For example, my unweighted GPA that is reported to colleges is a 94.41. I’d like to see you try to compare that to yours, it would be very difficult. In addition, we have no idea what classes you have taken. Is that 3.88 a result of 20 periods of basket weaving? Or was it earned through a plethora of AP, IB, Honors, and Dual Enrollment classes? Finally, what about your Extra Curricular activities? You know how you had to list those on the common app - that wasn’t just for fun, that was for a reason. Are you the captain of three varsity teams? Did you start your own business? Do you participate in a few clubs with solid leadership positions? Or, do you go home and play video games during your free time? This matters to colleges. And there are other things too. Where are you from? National or International? If national, what state? Different states could help boost your admissions depending on if it is highly represented or less highly represented. Are you a URM? Are you a double legacy? Honestly, no one can attempt to chance you based on this data, and even if you provide the whole picture, it would still be extremely difficult. If you’d like, go through college confidential, and find the “University of Rochester Class of 20xx Results Thread”'s, and compare yourself to those.
Good luck!
I think your GPA is fine, but your SAT score is on the lower side. I was accepted as ED. My GPA was lower than yours (but my school is very hard on GPA and colleges know that) and my SAT score was 2320
