My son would really like to attend USF. He has the GPA, the extra-curricular activities, sports, leadership, and community service. However, I am not sure how well he will do on the SAT's and/or ACT's. He is finishing the tenth grade and I plan to get him a tutor over the summer for the ACT. (His PSAT score was not good.....I think he has a better shot with the ACT.) Can anybody give me some feedback on what they think his chances for admission might be? He does not have any AP classes either.

I feel, USF, wants to attract more out of state kids. OOS kids will have a better chance than in state kids with similar stat. Now, I think kids do better on the ACT than the SAT and he should concentrate on that. You should make sure you visit the school and formally do the tours which shows that you are serious of attending USF. Also, call the admissions people, ask them how many kids from NY state gained admission to USF. Good LUck

wvacupuncture: Thanks for the response! We visited USF over the spring break, and that’s how we got a sense that it would be a good “fit” for my son. I hope you are right about the OOS kids. That would help. I will also make a call to admissions. That is a good suggestion. We will definitely be concentrating on the ACT. Thanks, again!
