Someone I know said that they received an email from their state admission officer indicating that they were accepted to the university. They said that the official letter would be coming later this week in the mail. Has anyone ever heard of U Chicago doing this before?

I haven’t.

Would chicago really let us know that soon?

I didn’t think Chicago did likely letters. Is s/he an athlete?

I was informed by an admissions counselor And a coach that UChicago does send out likely letters to a few athletes and a few applicants showing high academic promise. That being said, I think your friend is lying because they would not send likely letters as emails.

I found this peculiar because he was previously deferred. He is an athlete but not an exceptional athlete or extraordinary student.

I have several friends who got such letters. It’s legit.

For RD decision, for everyone else, does Chicago send emails as well as a letter? Or just a letter?

For ea, they posted the decision online on the admissions website, and sent an email for you to check.

Alice this is legit. The same thing happened to me on Friday. My State counselor sent me an email and my sport coach talked with me as well and congratulated me. Under my UChicago account I had a very personalized and non-automated letter from the Dean of Admissions regarding my acceptance and that I would be sent a letter in the mail soon in March. I don’t consider this a likely letter because at the bottom of my account there was an ACCEPT/DECLINE (for admissions) form for the class of 2015 and the $500 deposit. I’m quite excited.

Congrats splami!! I just got one of these too!

I received a likely letter a couple of days ago, and my regional conselor just sent me a personal email and the ACCEPT/DECLINE opened up on my account as well. :)
