Acceptances/Rejections/Waitlist Class of 2023

Does anyone know when JMU will be announcing acceptances?

When we visited December 1, they said they are aiming for 2nd week of March. Of course, by now that may look pretty optimistic!

I found this on their FAQ page… “Typically, School of Theatre and Dance decisions are available by April 1st for Regular Decision applicants and between January 15th and March 1st for Early Action applicants. Decisions are provided through MyMadison (the same portal you are notified of your admissions decision from the university.)”

My D was an EA admit and hasn’t heard anything yet (website says by tomorrow)… So not sure that’s true, or if they are sending all results out in Mid March like they said at your on campus audtion day @MTthreats

Decisions out for us! Yes to acting, no to MT. My D loved both so is thrilled.

@JenniBee, @MTthreats, @MTmama42 EA academic admit program admission decisions are now up on the applicant’s admission portal (released this afternoon). RD academic applicant (including those who applied EA and were deferred to RD) program admission decisions will be available when academic admissions decisions are posted, historically mid-March.

My S is also an EA admit and got a Yes to MT. Thrilled to get this good news!

We are on spring break this coming week, and I am traveling up to NY with the seniors for the NY Senior Showcase. Will be following up with MT program EA admits and WL this week. As mentioned above, RD academic applicants will receive program admissions notification when they receive their academic admissions notification. We will follow up with those admitted and waitlisted after the admissions decisions are posted.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.

Thank you, KatMT, for providing reliable information from inside the belly of the beast!

My S accepted for MT. Thrilled. He loved the audition and people at NYC unified. @KatMT . Need to make a visit as we have never been there. April is earliest we can get there. Any info would be appreciated.

@collegeboundSam, congratulations! My D committed to the theatre major and is so excited!

Not @KatMT, but my D got an invitation to Choices+ . It is a special event for people admitted to the arts major. There are 2 dates available, April 5-6, and April 7-8.

Did your son get this invitation? I can give you more details if you message me

@artandtechmom Yes, I received the invite . Thanks and congratulations to your daughter. We are not ready to commit yes, but very excited and at the top of the list. still on wait list for one school and waiting on 4 more, so my S wants to hold out until all info is in.

@collegeboundSam, thanks so much! Pretty sure the invite is for any accepted student, so you don’t need to commit before attending.

[Edit]. Okay, my daughter confirmed that she registered for this before committing. So, it’s an event for prospective accepted students :). Hope that helps…

@artsandtechmom, The dates are bad for us as it conflicts with shows my son is doing. I wish he could go, but we will have to visit another time.

@collegeboundSam – We will be folloing up with students admitted RD this weekend with information on how to arrange a visit outside of the Choices+ weekend, as well as other information! In the meantime, please fee free to reach out and/or have your son reach out.

@KatMT we will certainly reach out soon. My S has a number of questions. We have to wait until Financial aid offer comes in. I think JMU admission letter said end of March.

A number of questions? As parents of kids have who have experienced the MT program, we think there are questions that are worthy for your son to ask and consider. Like whats the retention rate of MT students? whats the percentage of MT students who actually get on the main stage during the four year program? Is the program an ensemble style program with true camaraderie or does the school create unhealthy competition within the program? Lastly we think your son should ask how many students is each MT advisor responsible for? He should ask for real data and not just a sale pitch.

Congrats @collegeboundSam
