Accepted for Mt Class of 2013!
Not sure if I’m going, but it’s nice to be in a school that has a great MT program!

how did you hear: email/call/mail? When did you audition and are you M/F?

My daughter received an acceptance letter approximately 2 weeks ago. It does sound like a great program. I PM'ed a couple of moms whose kids go there and they indicated that they are loving it. Congrats on your acceptance!

My son learned that he had been accepted into the Montclair BFA Acting program two days ago, on March 17. The notification was by e-mail. He auditioned on March 7.

Congrats to all! It IS a terrific program! My daughter loves it and has grown tremendously in all areas. I am looking forward to seeing her perform in Vagina Monologues next weekend, and she is as I write this in the midst of quite a few callbacks at Strawhat auditions, so we couldn't be happier! If anyone has any questions, feel free to PM me!

My son is in the counterpart of Vagina Monologues that is called MMRP (A Monologue, a Memory, a Rant, and a Prayer). It features monologues on similar themes that are suitable for men. He was tapped to deliver a hair-raising monologue called "The Destruciton Artist."

Lots of VDay performances all over the place. We are in Southern NJ.

I auditioned on Feb 14th and recieved a letter in the mail on Feb 27 (pretty much two weeks later). It's a small envelope, so don't loose hope when you see it [[:

and i'm a male

My son is a freshman in the the MT program and loves it. If anyone has any questions you can PM me. We are also from south jersey..Last year my son got phone call and a letter small white envelope

Congrats NJTheatreMOM on your son's role! Can't wait for next weekend! IBEElieveINU - I am sure your S is as excited as my D about going to Miami in April for the Industrial performance down there with Clay James. All expenses paid at the Four Seasons ain't half bad!

As acceptances roll in, remember to post yours on the acceptances threads - so far there are only 2 posted for Montclair.

Um, dancermom, I posted about my son's Montclair acceptance and his doing a monologue in MMRP next weekend (it's local). He's not going to Miami. Congrat to your daughter on that!

Sorry NJTheatreMOM - I thought your son was already at Montclair! The Miami reference was addressed to IBEElieveINU about HER son and my daughter's trip to Miami with Clay James in a couple of weeks. One post, two different addressees, sorry for any confusion!

Dancermom -- Oh, I see.....the way I wrote it, you thought my son was in Vagina Monologues/MMRP at Montclair. Sorry. Anyway, I'm sure it will be very cool for you to see your daughter in the production there.

My son has been trying to get up to Montclair to see a play or a show this year, but he has so many conflicts. He knows about 6 or 7 theatre kids at the school, most of whom I believe are in the BA/theatre studies program and whom I imagine your D must know. Two girls who are twins, a talented boy who is a transfer student and was recently in a play called "Homberg," a girl who is honing her already considerable skills as a director....

He is very happy to have been accepted but we are not sure whether he will attend. Depends on whether or not he gets a decent financial aid package from another school...

It'll be nice when everything is settled.

For those of you considering Montclair I would like to share a recent experience at the school. Two months ago I attended the NJ High School Drama Awards ceremony at Montclair that was sponsored and organzied by the theater department. One obvious reason for the ceremony was to showcase current students and alum during various portions of the show. In all candor, the performances were not good and the production as a whole did not showcase the school as an up and coming theater school. If I were a parent or prospective student in the audience, it would have given me pause in considering the school. But, do not just take my opinion. There were several hundred people in the audience from various NJ high schools and if you can seek out other people who attended, ask them what they thought. This is an important decision and any info you have is helpful.

Triumph, I found something on the internet about a "Theatre Night Awards" at Montclair on Friday, Jan 9. Is that the event you are talking about?

The piece says, "Nominated high school students performed "memorable moments" from their productions. Montclair State students and alumni also provided musical entertainment and comic sketches."

Could it possibly be that you thought the high school students performing their memorable moments were Montclair students? Even if that is not the case, this event occurred during winter break. Montclair may not have been able - or willing - to muster its finest to entertain the high school students at such a time.

Just a thought.

I was not referring to the high school performers--I was referring to the current students and alum who performed in comedy skits (who's on first), sang and danced. I thought about the break issue when I was sitting there but that does not explain why the alum performed as they did--if they could not get honed performances they should have just had the awards program rather than throw together a show that did not speak well of the school and left you wondering.

Triumph, you have a point. Did seeing that show make you or a friend or family member decide not to apply to Montclair?

A former student of mine is graduating this year from Montclair, and I have seen a number of productions there, both on the main stage and in the black box or other smaller venues. All have been good, and several have been outstanding. As with any college, I wouldn't want to judge the quality of a school by one mediocre experience; particularly one that was, as triumph mentioned, an awards ceremony and not a stage production. There could have been many reasons why that one wasn't up to snuff.

My child is already in a BFA MT program so that is not an issue with us, but we did attend with several parents whose children were seniors and had applied to various MT and drama schools, including Montclair, and they commented that it was not a positive experience.

To bad they weren't able to see PARADE or CRAZY FOR YOU or SEE WHAT I WANT A SEE, among others. Triumph, I understand your concern we took the shows into major consideration when choosing a school. I just wish you could have seen something other then an awards ceremony, and could have been able to see a MT program production. My son was home on Jan 9th as were most of his classmates, I don't even think he knew about this. I'll have to ask him about the performers I'm curious now.
