Accepted And With A 1700 Sat Score!!!

congrats! I'm accepted too and I'm a mediocre asian

Don't let anyone bog you down. Scores aren't everything. The admissions people must have seen something special in you :) :)

For everyone that is hating... shame on you. There is no need to bring someone else down just because you are down right now. When he said "Not everyone has the ability to get a 2400 on the SAT" he didn't mean because that person can not afford it. You have to realize that a lot of people are just terrible test takers. I believe that the SAT does not show how smart you are but how well you know the SAT. Now I am not trying to put down everyone that did get a 2400, but I guess what I am trying to say is.. well no need to be rude. Congrats G Man!

gman...congratulations on this fine accomplishement.

california_love8, I concur with (most of) your post. I see pdef is pontificating again about URM's. When gman made an initial post about this topic, this is what pdef shared:

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/stanford-university/366264-mexican-americans-stanford.html?highlight=pdef#post4402073%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/stanford-university/366264-mexican-americans-stanford.html?highlight=pdef#post4402073</a></p>

Some things never change.

To all...whether you were accepted, deferred, or rejected today...that e-mail doesn't define you as a person.

Gman:
Congrats on your acceptance! Even though your test scores were a little low, you worked hard in your classes, extracurriculars and helped your community a lot. Best of luck.

2 words: Affirmative Action

And no, I'm not bitter. I am already a freshman here at Stanford, just telling it like it is.

best wishes and good luck

Everyone can get a book. People on this forum exaggerate how many people go to hardcore tutoring. it is AA. If he was anything else he wouldn't have even got a defer. A 1700 is over 500 points below Stanford's mean. While the SAT may not major intelligence as it was meant to a 1700 does indicate a certain lack of intelligence. For God's sakes I got a 2050 in 8th grade and i went in cold turkey.
No one said college admissions was fair though.

Congrats to the OP though!

Just rejected with a 2330
it too is possible

Congrats man, geez so many haters on the Stanford board...seriously hop off his jock haters haha lol

As another member on this board stated U gotta remember that schools admit males over more qualified females (engineering), athletes over more qualified non athletes, musicians over more qualified non musicians, rural students over more qualified urban students, intended male nursing students over more qualified female nursing majors, black male education majors over more qualified female black educators, legacy over non-legacy students, top private school kids over top public school kids, recruit more Asians at LACS, etc. It's not just an ethnic issue. Pick your poison

Congrats to the OP and congrats to Stanford for seeing an intelligent, ambitious, uniquely qualified contributor whose positive attributes, by far, outweigh his low SAT scores where the less worthy whiners see only "unfairness".

congrats gman6855, i knew you would get in.

I'm in too, i had a 1860 and 1920 superscored. Scores aren't everything ppl.

collegehopeful78 that was just plain low: "While the SAT may not major intelligence as it was meant to a 1700 does indicate a certain lack of intelligence." A 1700 is a perfectly good score, it's better than 60-75% of the nation. And yeah you're right the SAT obviously doesn't measure intelligence because you scored high on it and you think major is the same as measure.

Anyways don't worry about those haters gman6855, their just mad because they can't or won't get in. I was so happy when i got in a couple of hours ago, and am even happier to see you get it in.

Congrats!!!!!
yeah great job!!!! Stanford class of 2012 stand up!!!!!

Congratulations gman! You know haters are going to be coming out of the woodwork - just ignore them and enjoy your accomplishment. Good luck at Stanford!

gman and lwk, congratulations to both of you!!!

all i have to say is congratulations. you obviously stood out, and that's a huge accomplishment.

well, congratulations!

this is my beef
whether AA or not or whatever reason anybody anywhere gets into any school
if that person enjoys success and graduates with a degree
he or she made it...

yeah..i agree actuarialDJ.

just because you got in to Stanford doesn't necessarily mean you can make it through all four years!

i wish you all the best OP, however, it's going to be alot of work competing against 2400 and 2300 valedictorians..

gman, congratulations. Great job, your passion obviously came through.

If I were to offer some advice as a parent, though, it may not have been the most tactful idea to post this thread right when many others were hurting. But you're young yet, and in the first flush of happiness it's understandable that you might have forgotten to put yourself in other people's shoes.

I'm delighted you will be at Stanford, and hope you will indeed be the inspiration you want to be to your peers in your community.

What high school do you go to. I go to Yosemite, which is also in the central valley. Albeit up a ways in the mountains.

CONGRATULATIONS !! thank you for proving that scores are really not everything
u just gave me a little bit of hope
thanks!
