Did someone got a response from GS for fall 2010 regular admission? My app' was processed on April 18 and I still didn't hear anything. Also, they were saying it's under review with the second committee; anyone knows what that means? Also, is GS consider an Ivy, or should I go to a CUNY scholl ??

Honestly I not sure if GS is considered an ivy.
Well I now go to a CUNY school with a few exceptions I don’t think that CUNY is anywhere near GS. I want to get out of CUNY. Yes GS may not sounds so ivy like the other colleges under CU, but think about the education you will get at CU compare to CUNY. This is just my personal opinion, I think GS is a great place, that provide a second chance to people who want to better themselves just like myself,(still waiting to hear back from the admission as well) I think that being part of CU I truly believe I will benefit from all the great opportunities.

Sounds like you already answered your question. Your application is being reviewed by the second committee which I assume means you’ve made it past the first round of reviewers, so just be patient. It does appear to be taking longer for you for some reason since they say it’s only suppose to take 4-6 weeks to process the application.

The school of General Studies is part of Columbia University which is an IVY League so yes it is an IVY league. I’m not really sure what you’re asking. Are you asking to compare CUNY schools to the school of General Studies?

Did none of you go to the information session or watch any of the Youtube videos on the school of General Studies? At the information session they hand you a blue pamplet that says General Studies can be your gateway to an IVY league education and if you do simple research or even go on the General Studies website it will tell you in plain english that you are applying for an IVY league education. You will graduate with an IVY league degree.

I applied for regular decision and am waiting to hear back. I submitted all my materials June 1st so I’m not expecting to hear back any time soon.

I will have:

From a CUNY community college:
3.75 or higher G.P.A (spring semester grades are to be determined)
Massive amounts of extra curriculars:
President of the Honors Club
Phi Theta Kappa Member
Publicity Coordinator for Student World Assembly
Steward for Responsibility to Care

Lots of Volunteer work and Internships going towards my academic pursuits:

Mentor at Youth at Risk
Research Technician for New School Psychology Graduate Program
Intern for Group Therapist

Very strong recommendations including one from the Associate Provost from my school.

I know all of this but was just wondering when zhaozhao applied. Also they said 6-8 weeks. I am asking about the Ivy cause a lot of ppl say GS is not really Columbia; and I got addmited to Baruch and wondering if GS IS worth it.

All my material went in by April 1st. But there was a mixed up with the doc because of my name, it wasn’t complete until the 7th. which is the same day that the lady told my in person that it will be ready for review in a week or two. So given that time line I have waited almost 7 to 8 weeks now.i am worried. but since they told me it’s under review i will just have to wait. i am thinking to call them tomorrow to see if the decision has been made although i am worried sick i will hear them say rejection as well.

Well Baruch is pretty good, what’s your major? I guess it all depends. if you are gonna major in business, then GS does not have a business major. financially any thoughts about that? i don’t know you. but to help you choose the school i just think that you should take everything into consideration and good luck.

Personally for me, I have to plan to go back to my country after my studies here, so label does matter to me a little. and the peer pressure, pressure from my parents I am taking that into consideration as well, I have many friends graduated from CU, including SEAS, CC, and graduate schools of CU. Yale etc. But most importantly, I want to experience the education at CU, to learn more. To meet a different group of people, although may not be the nicest people.

I think it is a good idea for you to call them in the mor’ and ask. I did that today and I am under review. Why not call? I saw other post that said ppl waited long time before they got an answer so don’t worry that it takes to long. They addm’ officer said 6-8 weeks you usally, which actually means 8 weeks or more. So if you had a mixup in the app’ etc., you are still good with the time period. I think they are still taking ED first. Please let me know how the phone call went. Btw- did you apply to any other schools?

I’m still waiting to hear from them as well… RD. I received my CUID on May 8, so its been at least 4 weeks. I’m just praying they email me with my decision because I’m in China, though I’m not an international student.

How old are you guys? I’m 19, so I’m definitely younger than the average student which I think will either hinder or help me in the long run. I think my app. was pretty damn strong, either way.

Emm, you should write to them and let them know that you are traveling this summer and won’t have access to USPS. I’m sure they’d be happy to make a note and accommodate you! Especially because if you get an offer of acceptance, they will want to receive your reply promptly.

I’m 24. I wouldn’t worry too much about the age thing. I think the main concern is that you would be considered (and consider yourself) a nontraditional student. GL!

Yea, I sent them an email before and told them I’d be in China, but that was in lieu of an interview… I’m not sure if I should call them again just to check up on it?

Sally- your response to my age was affirming…Thanks! I was on another forum and they told me I was generally too young… Though, we’ll all hear soon enough…

Do you guys know if they start reviewing your application right away, or only after they receive everything? I know they didn’t get my community college transcript til June 2nd… but I would think they would stat reviewing a little before then. I don’t know.

They don’t look at anything until your application is totally complete. The only exception is final transcripts. Your interim transcripts will complete your application to the point that they can decide whether to reject, accept, or delay a decision on your acceptance until they see your final transcript.
