DS was accepted to Middlebury as a regular Sept admission, but he is thinking to ask to change to Feb. Is Midd receptive to such requests?

I've read the threads on Febs and it seems that the Febs are a tight group. Some of the threads are a few years old, so wondering if anyone has some up to date comments.

Do the Febs really find it easy to join activities and organizations?

Are there alternatives to the weekend-party scene?

Do the students go to Burlington or Montreal often?

Are many students involved with research in the social sciences? Our student guide really emphasized the amazing opportunities in this area.

How is the career services? Is there good placement for internships?

It’s probably easier to go from Sept to Feb than vice versa.

And if he changes, he may open up a Sept spot for my derserving waitlisted D. ;-)

Best of luck with his choice(s).

(Did I mention that Febs graduate on skis??)

I have (as most people know) 2 sons at Midd-a Feb and a reg. Feb was eagerly welcomed into 2 organizations, and had a leadership role in 1 after 1 semester. He got a great adviser who has gotten him steady part time employment in his field. He joined a club sport this past fall as a rising Junior and just as easily another organization this spring-Midds really are kind of the Labrador Retrievers of college students-except smarter-they are in general very accepting and not very hierarchical.
So there are lots of other things to do-
And then he also skiied all winter, despite the poor snow cover this year-lots of friends happy to go with him whenever.
Reg son plays a sport-so less time for other activities, but still very engaged with campus life.
Both boys go to Burlington and Montreal a few times a year, but the main scene is at Midd.

OBD thanks for your reply. Do you think there is any down-side to being a Feb? My son is considering the request because he has an incredible internship opportunity that would finish end Nov. He doesn’t want to take a full-gap year, and Feb entry may be perfect.

I really like your Labrador Retriever analogy and the lack of social hierarchy — DS instantly had a vision.
