accepted as VM at CMU

ok, I'm just really stressing about this. I've been accepted into the School of Music at Carnegie Mellon as a voice major for next year. I still need to be accepted into the university itself. does anyone know the chances of me being denied at this point? Some people tell me that once you accepted into the music program your in, and the the office of admissions is just making sure you will graduate high school, and didn't get like a 0 on the SATS. Anyone know?

Um, yeah, if you got accepted to CFA you’re in. :stuck_out_tongue: Just don’t flunk out of high school, I guess! Congrats on the acceptance!

My D was told at CMU Pre-College last year that the music dept. has very little pull with admissions and that grades and SATs needed to be at a certain level in order to get in. They also said that the music dept. has accepted really excellent musicians who were denied by the admissions office. CMU is a very competeitive school, so that would make sense. Don’t lose hope, but I don’t think CFA acceptance guarantees CMU acceptance.

As long as you’re a decent student, though, you’ll be just fine. CFA are known for their talents and abilities, not necessarily their academic caliber-- that’s not really one of the major things the department looks at when accepting you if your portfolio or abilities qualify you. (No offense to any CFA students patrolling the board.)

Thanks guys :). Thats the problem. My grades and SATs are average. Dead average. Nothing special, and could’ve been much better. But then again I’m not failing out of high-school. My high-school years were just very focused on my music and not so much on my schooling.
