Tulane is my dream school and I am beyond thrilled to have been accepted, but I just got my official letter in the mail with no partial scholarship offers. I’m not surprised; I was a borderline applicant and expected a defferal so a scholarship was unlikely. I’d like to hear from current students, alums, parents of alums, etc. who are or have been in a similar predicament. I do expect some federal aid but not much; my parents can probably put up about half the tuition cos. What are my options? Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
I’m so sorry I know this won’t answer your question but can I ask what your GPA and SAT is? I am also a borderline applicant not expecting money and I just want to know if your stats are similar to mine since Im feeling super nervous that I will get deferred.
Thanks!! I probably got deferred since I applied super early and haven’t heard yet ugh.
@micky1120 Hi, sure! My GPA is a 3.5 and my ACT was a 29, 30 superscored. I think what got me in was my utmost interest in Tulane; I attended 3 local informational session (both in my area and at my school), wrote an amazing Why Tulane, kept in bimonthly contact with my admissions counselor, had amazing teacher recs, and have a family legacy.
I’m also a minority, which Tulane needs more of, so that probably was taken into consideration.
I was quite nervous about not getting in. I would tell you not to worry, but let’s be honest, when people say that it does nothing but make you more nervous. Of course, grades aren’t everything, but if you haven’t proved that Tulane is your number 1 or top choice it can be difficult to tell. If you really want Tulane, it will show in your application and the admissions counselor(s) will see that. They see through the over-qualified applicants with 4.0s and 2400s who are just using Tulane as a backup while they wait to hear from Harvard and Yale.
In my opinion, applicants who aren’t perfect add character to the Class of 2020. I had a significant upward trend in my transcript, going from a 3.0 freshman year to a 4.0 sophomore year. It shows that you’re self-motivated and can recognize when you’re not doing your best.
I truly hope you get in. You never know what’s going through the minds of admissions counselors, so don’t beat yourself up in the event of a deferral!
Thank you SO much! This made me feel a lot better.
