Accepted, but . . .

I got in as a 'winter quarter 2009' admit.

Basically, UCSD says I should take community college courses during the fall. Plus I have practically no chance at on-campus housing, and have to look at off-campus housing.

I got into Warren's as a Biochem major.

I don't know what to do! Is there any way of being bumped into regular Fall people? Should I email admissions and ask about my chances of being bumped into fall???

This happened to one of my friends last year. He moved from Warren to Roosevelt to get in for the fall. He also got on the housing wait list and got a spot in the revelle dorms a week b4 the start of the fall quarter. I am not sure exactly what you should do, but emailing wouldn't hurt; my friend was automatically moved into erc.

Do you mind me asking what your stats were?

Yes - get on the housing waitlist ASAP. Call the housing office to find out when they start taking people on the waitlist. My son got in on appeal and was not guaranteed housing. About 3-4 weeks before school started he got housing. He was in Muir but got housing in ERC. They have the nicer dorms anyways.

UCSD has an offcampus housing office - offcampushousing.ucsd.edu. Start looking for alternative housing just in case you can't get something oncampus.

Also, we found out later than you can appeal housing. If you have a good excuse why you should have housing (i.e. a medical reason), you may get in on appeal. When my son got freshman housing, he found out that he didn't have guaranteed 2nd year housing. He wrote an appeal letter in January his freshman year for sophomore housing. He appealed on medical reason and included documentation. They approved his appeal. Remember you need to do this early.

my stats were super low.

i had a 3.4 unweighted hs gpa, probably a 3.6 - 3.8 uc weighted gpa. i didn't have any leadership, but i had quite a few clubs. umm, i took a lot of classes at the local community college and got high grades in those. i took two ap's and five honor's classes. my essays were really good though. i didn't spend a lot of time on them, so they came across as really open and honest, and i stressed how different i am from the average student with politics, career choice [psychiatrist] and stuff.

i was admitted as a biochem major in warren's as a winter 2009.
