Hmmm, that's weird. For some reason it isn't included in my determined financial need amount. The email they sent makes it sound like it's a separate thing. I'll get it all taken care of when we move in next week. Thanks for the information hermanns. As dewdrop said, it's probably there just for personal expenses and/or could be used toward your student contribution for the semester. Now I just need to persuade my parents to work less so they can make just under $75,000 so they don't need to contribute for the future semesters haha. :D

$75,000 would only eliminate loans starting next semester, under 60k eliminates parental contribution, but <75k would save the 3k in loans you would get per year based on the 1500 you got this semester.

Awww, haha. It doesn't matter though because my parents make way more than the $75,000 amount, so there's no chance. However, I heard that in the new initiative starting next semester parents falling between $75,000 - $120,000 (my parents) would pay a lower contribution amount. It doesn't mention by how much though. That's still good news for everyone! It's incredible how Cornell continues to come up with more money to use toward its FA program even when the economy is slumping. Just like the other Ivies, isn't Cornell's endowment shrinking due to the weaker stock market? It's just amazing...

guys, im fairly poor, so whats the chance that cornell will pay for my housing?

Cornell determines your family's total financial need, subtracts that amount from the total cost of attendance, and you are left with what you'll be spending. The amount you'll have to contribute depends on what income category you fall under. You won't have to make individual payments for tuition, housing, books, and so on. They calculate everything together.

For example, if Cornell costs $48,000 for the year and your family has a financial need of $40,000, you and your parents would have to pay $8,000. Don't take this example serious though. You'd be surprised how much FA they give out to families. They definitely surprised me!

I forget, were we to disclose the amount of student contribution, or is that to be determined by FA?

what food plans are you guys going for?

500 bucks with 1 meal a day

Same here ..

living on west, so had to get a house plan

ILR kids, figured I let you know the schedule they picked for me is up online now..so yours probably is as well

Hmmm, did you find out with your NetID account? Because they still haven't sent mine and it's been well over a week since we paid the deposit. I should be receiving it soon, since I live just two hours away from Ithaca. Just curious, what courses did they assign you? Hopefully they don't put us in the unwanted classes haha.

Yeah, you need the NetID. I'm guessing we are all going to be in a lot of the same classes this semester because I think the 4 they assigned are all some required intros: ILRCB 1100, ILRHR 2600, ILROB 1220, & ILRST 2100. Its only 13 credits, which Im not too happy about since I wanted to take a few more..and I was hoping my statistics class from UMD would count for the ILR stat class. Oh well, at least all my UMD credits transferred in!

Awww, a NetID is all I need at the moment. Yeah, I forgot that each class is only worth three credits each. Ouch. At my previous school they are worth four each. From what I've read on ratemyprofessor.com, ILRCB 1100 is tough if you have Cowie, but his lectures are really good. Not so sure about your other courses, but I bet they'll be similar. Hopefully my statistics class credits transfer, because I can't stand math! Did they even ask you what ILR courses you liked? Or did they just force you into taking what they chose?

Yeah they just completely picked for me without contacting me, but I think when we meet with advisors we have a chance to try and change the schedule if we'd like.. but as I said, I think most of this stuff might be required any way. Also, I couldn't find any of my teachers on ratemyprofessor.com, I forget their names at the moment, but I guess it wasn't Cowie.

Ohhh, okay. If they're all required, I'd rather not take them all in one semester. It's good to have some variety in a schedule. I couldn't find Berger (ILRCB 1100), but I found the professor for ILRST 2100, who is rated a 3 out of 5, which is average I guess, but that's coming from only one rating.

oh yeah, I found her.. but I figured the 1 rating wasn't a good sample source to pull from (as I am sure we will learn in her stat class!)

Hopefully. Here's my opinion: if they teach at Cornell, they must be good! Or else we're getting ripped off haha.

Mail came, no NetID... I fly out Monday morning for crying out loud.

For anyone who has yet to receive a NetID: I have been constantly calling Cornell this past week, because I had a problem with housing. I also do not have a NetID. I was told that if I had not received one in the mail by that time (this was Tuesday), then I should expect one to be given to me during orientation.

And yes, I finally have housing.
