Who's applying for Spring transfer 09'-Cornell

So who's applying for spring transfer? List all your information...meh, maybe you can get to know a couple of prospective transfer students...

Current School: Wayne State University(Sophomore)
Major: Honors Chemistry(Applying to CAS)

How far are you guys with the application process?

I will probably apply for Fall '09, not sure yet. I think I would have a better chance with Spring '10 (simply because then they will see all of my freshman yr, as opposed to just 1st semester).

If I apply, it will be CAS - Govt major. I'm currently an NYU freshman, so obviously I can't apply for Spring '09.

I wish cornell had rolling admission, so I could apply in May for Fall '09, and they could see my whole freshman yr.

I really know nothing about the transfer application process - in what ways is it different with the freshman application process? It's still Commonapp so it must be similar.

Applying to CAS
Major: Biology (probably Evolutionary Biology and Ecology)
Current School: Michigan State

I'm finished with the application I just need to finish the supplement. This is undergrad admissions all over again!

Speaking as someone who had the "honor" of applying to Cornell twice (once for freshman admissions and once for transfer admissions): There wasn't anything significantly different. The biggest difference is that you have to explain (tactfully) why Cornell is good for you and why you want to transfer. And...you submit your college midterm grades (like the HS mid year report).

dewdrop - I've had the 'honor' of applying for freshman admission as well (rejected haha...but I'll be the first to admit I put little effort into my app). It's nice to know someone who was rejected once got accepted later, but 2 questions:

1) if I apply for fall '09, they will focus on HS since they'll only see 1st semester college grades, so that means they'll probably reject me again (Although I improved senior yr, they will see that)...should I apply Sring '09 instead?

2) on my app I'll have to check I've applied previously. Will they say, hey, we rejected her once and now she's back, or hey, she must love cornell?

1.) Yes...they will see your HS numbers but they aren't as important anymore. What is important are your 1st semester grades and the grades reported on your midterm reports (for 2nd semester). So...it's important to rock this 1st year at college. If you're really worried about your HS numbers...you could wait and apply for Spring 2010 transfer.

I can't give you an answer. When I applied for transfer, Cornell wasn't using the common app and there was no "have you applied for admission before" question. The trick is to let your love for Cornell shine through in your essay. You have to convince them that Cornell is the best place to continue your studies...I think that, in some respects, is more important than your numbers.

thanks dewdrop

if I apply for fall '09, they will only see my 1st semester/midterm reports and that's not much, so won't most of the focus be on HS still?

it's not that I did terribly in hs, I took 8 ap's and mostly honors/advanced classes, but my gpa isn't that great. freshman yr was a 3.03 UW (because I got a D in an art class), soph yr it was a 3.6 UW, junior yr a 3.64 UW and senior yr a 3.85 UW. Also took 2 9th grade level classes in 8th grade which I did poorly in that are weighing down my gpa. SAT was 2130 (640M 720R 770W), and SAT II's were 660 World History and 770 Lit. So overall, HS stats are too low for Cornell, although I did go to a very competitive public school on LI if that helps.
Can't say what my college gpa is, but at NYU i'm applying for an honors major which requires a 3.65 minimum, so it will be at least that, but I'm aiming much higher.

is it true that they are actually asking to complete bio I and II, Organic Chem I to enter the cals???????????

Depending on what year to plan to enter (i.e. as a sophomore or junior) then yes...CALS asks you to complete those minimum requirements.

All CALS applicants must complete bio I and II + labs. Some majors like biological sciences require orgo if entering as a junior. (Not sure if all CALS majors do)

thanks a lot, god im in a huge trouble now....:-/

about the requirements...i know cals asks to complete two intro bio courses and two writing courses, but what if you're applying as a spring 2009 transfer as a freshmen? Is this even possible? Or is spring transfer limited to sophmores and juniors?

bumping .

so if we are planning on applying for Fall 09 is it necessary to start this early because I was just going to finish my first semester at Michigan State by December 12 then finish my application and get it turned in late December to early January?

Spring transfer is only for current sophomores and juniors. Cornell requires you to have at least 1 academic year under your belt before you transfer. So...current freshman can only apply for admission the following fall (i.e. fall 2009 for current first years).

If you turn that app in by January you're fine. Back in my day..we didn't have the common app so I submitted part 1 in September and submitted the rest in November. Your application is not complete until you submit your spring mid-term grade report so applicants won't have a complete file until March at the earliest.

Is anyone looking into Human Ecology? I was thinking of transferring for Fall '09 but I'm a bit confused....I think there are a list of mandatory classes that I should have already completed before applying. Does anyone know if those classes are really mandatory? I took astronomy this semester and even if I take Bio next semester, it still doesn't complete the requirements =(

I'm applying to HumEc for Spring '09. What major are you looking for?

All the required preparatory courses are here: http://www.human.cornell.edu/che/Academics/Admissions_services/Undergraduate/admissions_process/upload/Transfer-coursework-20081-Calc-3.pdf

The major that I'm looking for is human development...
I'm still a bit confused. Do I have to take only one class of either bio/chem/physics/ with a lab? Or two?

You would have to take one semester of bio with a lab, which is mandatory. Then you could either take another semester or bio or you could do chem or physics, with each being taken with a lab.
