@zappiaer, contact the college you hope to be admitted to and speak with an advisor. If youre grade trend is good and you’ve done well in all of your other prereqs they will have more leniency and will understand that there is a problem will the course and not you. It is imperative you do your best and if necessary initiate a grade dispute. This will at least show UF if you do get accepted and can not meet the required grade for entrance that you tried ever venue. I don’t think anything is too hasty if must have a petition signed and/or initiate the grade dispute process to try and get your grade changed/improved. I think it would be pretty awful to be rescinded based on one class due to a faulty professor. Also, talk to the advisor about a contingency plan should you not be able to make the necessary grade such as retaking the course over the summer if you applied to UF for the fall term or allowing you to take a placement test or SAT II to prove that you do know the material and the course was at fault.

Wellerizzzle, I feel like we’re very alike when it comes our level of worrying, haha. I agree though. I’m trying to cut back on looking so much, but it’s disappointing that the times I do look, nothing has changed. And it’s a little discouraging when you see people from CLAS getting acceptances and it’s like…what about me?!

@ gatorgirl. thanx i found out today in the evening. came as a shock I checked at 5 n later on I checked it said congrats

Yes zappiaer, DO contact your dean and get a petition signed. I know someone who did that at my previous institution, and the school came to the agreement that whatever grade everyone received would be curved up a letter grade. I cannot say for sure what your school will do obviously, because I do not go there, but I am sure something will be done.

I speak from first hand experience. UF is STRICT about grades in prerequisites - I have been there before with a class (last semester), and luckily am in a much better position this semester with that same class and got back in to my program - and I know I will be able to receive the grade that is necessary to keep my spot in the program, and will finally be able to attend in the fall. I am just warning you, the outcome may not be good. I cannot tell you for sure, but I know that UF in general is very, very strict on transfers. They cannot really go back on their word or on what is stated on your notice of admission (your requirements are listed on that). However, you may be able to get the permission of your college to take the course in Summer A like julius305 said. It would be rough, because you’d need chem 2045 in Summer A and chem 2046 in Summer B, but it’s definitely doable. Find out if your current institution will even let you do this, though (some schools only offer it Summer C, which is the entire summer)

I have been sick and sleeping all day and I woke up this morning at around 3:00am and decided to check my status and found out I got accepted, and needless to say I wasn’t feeling sick anymore. I was accepted with a 3.67 in Biochemistry in CLAS and I applied in January and I am coming from a Florida CC.

So good luck to everyone else and hope to see you guys there with me in the fall.

haha Gatorgirl, definitely. We’re both for sure crazy right now :P

I’m happy people are getting accepted into CLAS though because at least it means they’re doing stuff.

At this point I just wanna be put out of my misery, accepted or not I really just want this wait over withhhh frigoewgogeuwhguyghue

Congrats to the ongoing acceptees! :)

Also, does anyone know if anyone has actually been denied yet? Like for people they say no to, do they just wait till the last minute to do so?
That’s a really scary thought o.O

Exactly! I want to go to UF so badly, but it’s like, if you’re just going to end up rejecting me, please just do it. I’d hate to think I might be waiting around until the last minute just to be given a “no”. If I know now at least I’ll be able to start making other plans. Right now I’m not even contemplating any other options because UF is my dream school, and if I don’t get in I will be so incredibly saddened. I just want to keep a positive mindset, but it’s hard since you never know with UF.

You’re definitely right though I certainly feel like I’m going crazy But I’m sure there are many others that are too, they’re just not admitting it, haha!

I am one of the people going crazy! I still check a few times a day but I never really expect anything when I check it. I agree that if they are going to deny students just do it already! We have to consider our other options…

Has anyone heard back from CALS? It seems like all the Chem people are getting accepted and I have heard of business majors being accepted too. When is it the CALS turn!?

I am extremely nervous because my GPA is only a 3.3 but like I have said before I volunteer and work full time. Does anyone know if they take that into account? I put that information on my application,so I hope so!

I just spoke to an advisor that handles transfer admissions in the college of engineering, she said descisions for the civil engineering applicants would probably be sent out the first or second week of May… more waiting!

Hey Everyone,

I have been following the thread since at least January. As of now, I am a transfer applicant applying for admissions into CLAS as a political science major with a 3.9 cumulative GPA and a 4.0 pre-professional GPA. However, I am transferring from a four-year Florida private institution, the University of Tampa, and I have come to the realization that UF tends to prefer admitting community college students. Even though I believe my resume garners exceptional merit, I am beginning to think that perhaps my chances of being accepted are diminishing as each day passes by. Which is absolutely disheartening since the University of Florida has been my dream school since I was six.

When I was in high school I didn’t realize the opportunities that I was given, and therefore I did not take advantage of them. So, I went to a school that was below my standards academically and cannot stand the thought of having to stay here another year. I realized instantly that UT was not for me and dedicated myself to studying and receiving high grades. All in hopes of one day having the opportunity to call myself a Gator. Well, it has been nearly six months since I applied and I still have still not had the honor of calling myself a Gator. I know exactly what each and everyone of you mean when you say “I check 15 times a day” or “I just want an answer so I can contemplate my options.” I too want those things. The only thing that would make me more happy than being accepted is to see gatorgirl or welleriizzzle be accepted. Its ashame that UF has treated us this way, as numbers.

Congratulations to all who have been accepted thus far. Has anyone heard of any political science majors being accepted?

P.S. I called CLAS today and the representative told me I may have to wait until at least mid-April if not the beginning of May. And to think I applied in October.

Wow HopelessGator (don’t be hopeless!) I know what you mean. Even though you’re not coming for a comm college your GPA is excellent, and it would be awful if you didn’t get in. Don’t be hopeless though!

And wow. Mid April early may? That is awful news. I NEED to know by April 25th because class fees are due this summer, and considering I won’t be getting help from my parents financially, I really need to know whether I need to sign up for as many credits as I already am.

This is so aggravating. I don’t know a single Polisci major to have been accepted yet. I like that there’s a few of us potentials on here though.

I really hope we all get in! Don’t lose hope though! I got in during high school but I couldn’t go for financial reasons, even so I realized you can never lose hope and you just have to keep a positive attitude and realize everything happens for the best (which it honestly did). :)

Seriously, good to luck everyone!

HopelessGator, that was very sweet. I truly appreciate your thoughtfulness of including myself and welleriizzzle in your wishes for acceptance. I too think it’s a shame that I feel like nothing more than a number, we are all so much more than that. Your GPA’s are amazing though, so I wouldn’t worry a bit about the fall back of coming from a university. There’s just no reason for them to say no to you.

I personally have not heard of any political science majors receive acceptances (or rejections) yet, but there have been quite a few CLAS in general that have received word, which is frustrating.

I was in the same situation in high school. I had a good GPA, but not great SAT’s, so I just figured I’d go to a community college and transfer wherever afterward. It wasn’t until last semester that I began to see how well I was doing, and that I might actually be good enough to go somewhere like UF. It made me feel like someone special, and has given me more confidence because I see now that I really can do more…and I’ll just be crushed if I don’t get the chance to prove it (especially to myself).

I can’t believe the representative actually sad mid-April to the beginning of May! That’s unheard of. I’m sure they want to assume that gives us plenty of time to prepare but it really doesn’t. I have a lot of things that I was going to be doing (including moving) by the beginning of May that are extremely dependent on whether or not I get accepted.

I just wish they would hurry things along.

I wish you the best of luck!! It would make me so happy to see all of us political science majors receive acceptance letters :)

I’m applying for the Japanese program and I got an email from my advisor today saying that I had been deferred until I can take the placement test so I can officially get in.

I guess this means that I have been accepted so long as I pass the placement test, which I don’t imagine failing as I have gotten an A in all my Japanese classes I’ve taken to date (4 semesters worth, haha).

Best of luck to everyone else!

ok something I forgot to add!

Last week I emailed the admissions office telling them that it’s important that I hear back asap (in a polite way, of course :P) And they told me I should hear back within the next 2-3 weeks.

They tell everyone different things!!! hfuriehguihgui

You can certainly count me in with the ones that check the status every 15 minutes, but also add “call the office of admissions every other day”, and surprisingly every time I call, they need something else from me but the website doesn’t reflect that. Now, if you want to talk about being hopeless here’s the update in my story: after five weeks, my transcript is still stuck at the international admissions (even though I’m a transfer from CC) and this is because I have 3 years of college in a foreign university, and the office of admissions doesn’t know how to calculate my gpa so they forward it to them.

Then I emailed the adviser at DCP and he responds to me saying that “the school of architecture is not accepting outside credits at this time, only your general education will count” so I’m wondering why in the hell are my transcripts still stuck at the other department if the school of architecture doesn’t give a freaking cucumber about them… so basically I wasted 3 years of my life going to architecture school so that UF can dispose of those credits and decide they’re worthless; even if I’m accepted I will have to go for FOUR years because of the way the architecture program is structured.

Back to the office of admissions being inefficient; every time I call they need something else from me, last time it was my car registration because the one I gave them magically got lost; so I went ahead and faxed it and called right away to make sure they got it, and their response was: “I’m sorry but we only check faxes once in the morning so you will have to call again tomorrow morning and check” Thankfully they did received it so I didn’t have to wait yet another day; I also asked them about my status and they told me that they’re done with my GPA but they’re now evaluating my foreign courses, which I hope they’re not wasting their time on it based on what the architecture adviser told me earlier about not accepting outside credits.

This whole thing is so frustrating and aggravating at the same time, PLUS every time I speak with somebody about how long will the DCP take to make a decision whether they’ll accept me or not into the architecture program they all give me the same bogus answer: “well ma’am, I know as much as you do, I don’t know” almost wishing we had cliffs in Florida so I could jump off of one -so frustrating!

Sorry if bugged you with my 10-page drama story, I just needed to vent somewhere :(

No worries kttn2103, I’m pretty sure that’s how we all feel at this point. I liked your cliff reference though, haha. I’ve yet to talk to a representative because I’m kind of scared to, lol. I’m worried that if I bug them they might be like “oh, sure we’ll update your application…rejected”. I know that’s an irrational thought, but I’m a worrier so unfortunately pessimism takes over sometimes.

I just want to go on this forum one day and see a bunch of “accepted!” instead of just one or two hear and there. It’s not like I want to see rejections, but at least if we saw some of those too we would know at least more is being done over there.

haha don’t worry kttn, this is a good place to vent :3 It’s funny how bad we all want to go there but also how much we’re hating on UF right now!

But yeah that is really frustrating. I love that school (I visit pretty much every weekend), but they are getting on my nerves so much >.<

And wow. so many years of school, that really is unfortunate Kttn :\ But hey, it’s a great school and a great town, so more years won’t be such a worse-case-scenario. My boyfriend is an engineer student there but he plans on staying extra years, purely to make the most of the education offered. It’s not such a bad thing :)

Heh, i’ve got a similar story myself. Anxiously waiting. I’ve tried contacting Cynthia Sain for some time now and have had no luck! I’m sure she’s super busy considering all the applications and dealing with advisement holds. I know they usually only update late night on weekends, but I still check every chance I get, lol!

I was at UCF in '06 for engineering as well but ended up getting kicked out due to academic probation. I left UCF with a 1.4 gpa and genuinely had no interest in school at the time. Ended up getting my butt kicked, going to rehab, and here I am over 3 years after the fact. Going to a CC here in South Florida which really let me get my path back on track. I love this place, it has opened my mind to what an education can lead to and how much I actually love to learn. It let me feel like i’m a student capable of reaching large heights. I went from being an unmotivated F student to a straight A student here. So I have a 3.3 overall gpa with a 4.0 pre prof (engineering, so all math physics and calculus), lol.I got into ga.tech but it’s far too expensive for me as I pay for school myself and have to high a EFC to get help from the government.

At any rate, I’ve heard nothing but love from my gator alumni friends who have since graduated. I can’t wait to hear back and buy some house divided bumper stickers for my sister and I, haha!

Hopefully we all hear back soon. I’ve only been waiting since December, so I can just imagine how waiting since October must feel.

Hopelessgator I’m in the sameee boat as you! I’m losing hope for the sole reason that they prefer community college students and I’m also coming from a 4 year university. My application hasn’t even been sent to the college for a final decision though so I have to endure a lot more waiting. welleriizzzle and gatorgirl210 I hope they tell us political science majors our fates soon!!

For now, I’m just going to enroll in my summer classes and carry on as I have, there’s no point of getting rejected and missing out on possible classes that I can take.

Is there anyone who has applied to the Business college or Accounting college? I’ve been following this forum for a while but I see most of you have applied to CLAS. I applied to the Accounting school in the first week of January for Fall 2011 and my status has said “Submitted to your college for final review…” since the last week of January. I have a 4.0 Overall GPA and 4.0 Pre-Professional.
Like some of you I too realized what I was missing in High school and have really worked hard for my grades. When I graduated high school in 2006 I would have had a slim chance in getting into UF (the only school I ever wanted to go). I chose to take the work path instead. Since attending school again I have found a new confidence and really believe I can get it to UF. It would be a dream come true! I really hope everyone else gets in too!
I tried emailing the Accounting college about when they would be releasing decisions and they only responded with a generic, non-timeline answer. Has anyone else come across any information about this concerning the Business college or Accounting college?
