CC Student Wanting To Transfer To FSU Fall 2011

Hello Everyone!

I am currently a second year student attending a 4 year college, St. Petersburg College. (Used to be a community college, now considered 4 yr college). At the end of this fall semester, I will be applying to FSU for fall 2011. I am really just looking for feedback and opinions.

Right now, my GPA is low, but if I get straight A's this semester and next (which I am not worried about doing), I will have a 3.45 GPA upon receiving my AA degree. I want to be an AA transfer to FSU, ultimately pursuing their graphic design BFA program. When I apply to FSU after this semester, my GPA will only be a 3.26. Will this be the GPA they go off of when determining whether or not I get in? And is a 3.26 or 3.45 even enough to get into FSU as a transfer student with an AA? I know FSU favors AA transfers, but I want to know if I have a good chance or if I have none.

Another question is, because I want to get into a limited access program, is it mandatory that I have all the pre requisites for the program to even be considered at FSU? I will have more than half of them done but was planning on finishing the others my first semester at FSU after acceptance and then applying for the program spring 2012.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

I’m looking to transfer to UF, and I’ve been doing a lot of research as well. From what the people at UF told me (I’m not sure if it’s the same at FSU) but they will take into consideration your current GPA, but they also expect you to send all updated transcripts as soon as new grades are available. From that they will make their final decision.
Also, at both UF and FSU, you must declare your program in the transfer application. And you must be accepted for admission by the program, not the school. It’s much different from freshman applicants who can be “undeclared.”
I know as a fact that to transfer as a junior into FSU you MUST have all your pre-reqs completed upon arrival at the university. I had a friend who did not get in because she “did not satisfy the required milestones” for her major. This can include GPA, but in her case it was pre-requisite classes.
For your intended major at FSU here is a list of what you should have completed upon entrance: (https://facts23.facts.org/cpp/pdf/stuPdf.jsp?sessionid=lhwu2WaOcVWZkm_q6Ej4l_J</a>)
As far as your GPA is concerned, I would try to pull it up as you said. What is your pre-prof GPA (classes that count towards your major)? It says on the FSU transfer website, that A.A. degree junior/senior level seeking transfers must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. But since FSU is a very common transfer university for Florida community college students, I would expect it to be rather competitive. So the higher the GPA the better. A 3.5 GPA is pretty safe, but regardless, you still have a chance! Just make sure you do exceptional in the remaining classes you’re taking, especially the ones that are major-specific. And don’t forget to continuously send all updated information to the school as soon as you receive new grades! Good luck!

How do those program specific requirements work for non-AA transfers?

I am applying as a sophomore transfer with 50 credits at the end of spring. They don’t still expect you to have completed all the requirements if you’re not applying as a junior/senior do they? I will have all the requirements for my major except 2. 1 of which my current college(Also SPC same as the OP) does not offer so theoretically that one shouldn’t count! ;)

I know FSU favors AA transfers but if I got my AA I’d have to wait til Spring 2012 and I really don’t want to be a Spring transfer. I want to start in the Fall when most people start.
