accepted/ denied uf transfer fall 2011

Possiblegator, I’m sorry to hear that. What was their justification for the denial?

I’m very sorry to hear that Possiblegator. Looking at your stats, it looks like there wasn’t any reason to reject you…

Their “possible reason for denial” was “my application was not competitive with other applicants.” I don’t know what to take from that other than they just really do not like students coming from a university. On a brighter note, even if I was accepted I probably wouldn’t have gone to UF. I don’t hate UCF and there are things like my girlfriend being in Orlando that would keep me here. Trying to find a place to live in Gainesville and registering for classes this late just isn’t worth it for me. If any of you do choose to come to UCF, you can have a great college experience and a great education if you put a little effort in, and it isn’t a terrible option. Good luck to all of you with UF, I hope you hear soon.

Yeah, I don’t see how that’s “not competitive”, unless the majority of the applicants are perfect 4.0 students, which I don’t see how that could really be possible. The problem with UF is just that, it’s UF. Nobody ever has an exact idea of what they really want. They might accept one person with certain stats, and deny another person with the exact same stats or better. I wish you luck at UCF though, that’s where I’ll probably be going if I don’t get into UF, it’s a good school. Plus, it’s not really what college you go to, it’s what you make of your time there.

It kind of makes sense gatorgirl since they Florida community college students at a priority, which I kind of like (I would even if I wasn’t a CC transfer). Because if they accepted all the university transfers first then there would be a good chunk of CC students who wouldn’t be at any school.

I’ve heard this has a been a pretty heavy applicant year for them, so it makes sense that unless a uni transfer was a 4.0 student, even if he was there might just not be any room. Another thing is how bad community colleges (at least mine) baby the students still. As long as you don’t take any of the “hard” professors at my school, you can pull a 4.0 without trying, so chances are the vast majority of CC transfer applicants have a 3.5 or above.

Anyway, possiblegator, sorry you didn’t get in, there’s always appealing it, though it seems you’ve already talked yourself out of going, and I can’t blame you. The thought of me finding living arrangements and having last picks of courses this fall isn’t exactly appetizing to me.

Good luck to everyone else whose waiting though, I’m REALLY hoping to hear next week.

Sorry to hear that possiblegator =/

For those wondering about how they decide during admissions process (specifically for state university applicants)

I’m coming from a four year university so naturally I selected summer classes in case I had to stay. Since I was accepted, I wasn’t sure whether or not UF would let me take the summer classes and count them towards my transfer credits. The good news was that if it wasn’t more than 90 credits, they do count it as long as you make sure to send your final transcripts after you take the class.

Unfortunately, they told me not to take any political science courses (the major I applied for) because there’s only a certain number of credits you can take at another institution without it affecting your acceptance. So I took a look at both my course history and the UF site and for my major at least, I have to take at least 15 out of the 30 credits needed for my major AT UF. I had exactly 15. So the advisor told me if I took any more, they could deny or reverse my admission.

The point of this is, though it may seem smart to take many courses for your major (making your application look nice) before applying, it’s actually a huge reason why they deny people.

Just a heads up, this is all information I got from a CLAS advisor but I’m assuming the same goes for almost all the colleges.

I agree with your point Steel. Although most might see it as “unfair” to accept community college transfers over state university transfers, I think it makes more sense. Like you said, transfer students really wouldn’t have anywhere else to go, while students already at a university are already set. Even if UF is a better school than the one they’re currently at, they are still getting a good and continuing education where they are. In other words, they’re not completely screwed if they’re denied, whereas we have less to choose from. We have to find somewhere to go, it’s not like we can continue to stay where we are. I would never call community college a cake walk though, at least where I am. I mean yes, I completed my AA with over a 3.5 GPA, but it’s not like I didn’t have to put forth any effort in getting it. In my opinion, the courses are just as challenging (or not challenging) as they would be at a university (I see my friend at UF’s work load all the time), it just all depends on what classes and professors you take and what type of student you are.

Some interesting information dannix, thanks for sharing. Good luck this week everyone!

^ Well said gatorgirl, I agree with your statement. Everyone acts as though community college classes are easy and to some extent they are (especially general education courses). But, I’m not going to lie, I had to really study for the sciences. At the campus I attend the rigor is definitely more difficult than some of the student’s courses at other universities (not all, but some). I talked to a few students that are attending universities and I’m helping them out! Anyhow, I’m still curious if I’ll get in. It will make no sense to me that I got accepted into one of the top 15 schools in the country, but not UF. Well, I guess time will tell.

Whoah, can anyone access their degree audit? I’m getting “Audits are only available for undergraduate students. Please contact your department/college if you have any questions,” which I’ve never seen before. I haven’t been admitted yet (optimistic phrase, I know), but before I’ve been able to see all the red “x”'s and green checks.

Joebobjoe, I’ve never checked that page before. So you’re saying that it use to say something different? Mine also says “Please contact your department/college if you have any questions.” Not quite sure if there is any meaning behind that, but who knows. If there is, hopefully it’s a positive one though lol.

Yeah, used to show at least a basic degree audit.

So I’m pretty much over the moon right about now… a couple hours ago I checked my status and nothing had changed… then a little bit ago I checked and I couldn’t believe what I saw.

“Congratulations!!! Your application to the University of Florida for the Fall 2011 term has been approved!”

I literally jumped out of my seat and ran to tell my sister, I was like “that can’t be right! you read it!” Haha! This wait was so dreadful, but I guess it was worth it.

Good luck to everyone else! :)

congratulations gatorgirl!!!

that’s so exciting, gatorgirl! :)

grats gatorgirl, I’m pretty jealous at the moment.

Thanks you guys! I really appreciate it. I’m still in shock… it’s just so unreal after this extremely long wait.

So what are your plans for housing, I’ve been browsing apt. complexes out of sheer boredom of waiting. In a couple more weeks I may lose my mind so an acceptance won’t matter. :D

Oh gosh, I really don’t know! I originally had a plan of moving into this one apartment, but last night I found horrid reviews on it. Everything from bad maintenance, to crime rates, bugs, etc… and SO many other apartments ratings said the exact same things. And don’t feel bad about researching apartments, I’ve been doing that since the day that I applied (probably sooner!) haha. It helped me keep a positive mindset, like it was actually going to happen, you know? But yeah, still looking… it’s tough though. You find one place that has what you want and then it’s too expensive, then you find one place that’s not but it is missing something essential to your needs. I’m sure we’ll find something though  We kind of have to, unless we want to live in a box out there, haha!

lol, I understand exactly whats happening to you. I’m looking for something within walking distance to my CALS (so, east of the school), has decent security (If my convert top gets slashed, I’ll lose it), and has utilities included. It being furnished would be a pretty big plus, as I don’t want to pack up all my stuff and move it back to Jacksonville for the summers. I don’t mind having roommates, as long as I have my own bathroom.

I haven’t really considered the cost though, I’m going to take out 7500 in loans for fall/spring which ideally should pay for tuition/books in full. And maybe 1-2 meals a day at the chow hall. Outside that, if my folks can’t fork up a grand a month for an apartment, I guess I’ll sell my car.

Congratulations gatorgirl! I’m glad you got in! It really helps me keep my hopes up knowing that UF is not denying everyone at this point… I guess I’ll have to wait a few more days!

Good luck with housing!
