accepted/ denied uf transfer fall 2011

So I logged into my status today and it said “application status not available.” Then I logged on an hour later and I still have the same status. I logged onto ISIS and I can see my information, but today it said personal record is not available at this time. Before I looked at my cumulative GPA as 0.0 because I guess I haven’t been entered into the system, but not even that occurs now. I hope this isn’t a bad indication. Did anyone else have this problem? I hope this means that my application is being looked at.

For those of us looking for an apartment… i found this website [Community Policing & Neighborhood Crime Statistics | CrimeReports.com](http://www.crimereports.com) where you can type in the address and it will show you all the different crimes around the neighborhood… so with that little website I came to the conclusion that east of campus and downtown are the worst places to be; actually anywhere near campus doesn’t seem very safe based on the crime reports; if you want to leave your car at the apartment complex you’ll be better off in a gated community since it seems like a lot of car thefts and car break-ins occur in that area around campus.

It seems like the nicer safer apartments are in the west side of town but if you ride the bus it will take about 1 hour to get to school :S or if you drive you better wake up early and hope for a parking spot. I asked a friend whose cousin went to UF’s nursing school and she said the same, that the safe area is west of town and that things around campus are either ghetto looking, or if it happens to be a nice place then it’s too expensive… I plan on going down to Gainesville next Friday to tour some apartment places, so I’ll be back with some reviews then…

Oh also, about places that include utilities, apparently they only include electricity up to $35/mo!!! this is Florida and my average electric bill on the summer is $150-170…

Ehh I don’t know what routes would take an hour, I live by the mall (the furthest west stop on route 20 about ~4-5 miles west of campus) and it takes me 35 mins MAX to get to school on the bus, normally around 25 minutes so it’d be less for all the other stops along that route which include a lot of the major apartments (the estates, cabana beach, the district, spy glass etc.) Only possible problem is when buses are full and you have to wait for the next one but during spring and fall they come every 10 minutes so it’s not a big deal as long as you time it right.

Kttn, I think I’m going to do the same thing. It’s becoming a real headache trying to find somewhere decent to live. It seems like all the apartments near the campus have terrible ratings, a lot relating to crime rates, overcharging, and bad maintenance staff. All of which are very important of course. There HAS to be something. I’ve been on the computer for a couple hours now trying to find something, I just keep hoping something will just pop out at me and I’ll be like “yes! that’s perfect!”.

It never fails does it? You get one stress out of the way (getting accepted) and then oh what do you know, here’s something else to worry about, lol. But that’s life I guess.

Good luck Bblacky and lavender! I hope you both find out soon  I’m sure you will.

Neat map, there sure are a lot of sex offenders in gainesville. The apartments within a block to the east of campus don’t look too bad on there. And 35 a month is laughable, my computer eats that up by itself. I have seen a few with unlimited electric, though most were singles. But if that’s what it takes…

edit: I just checked the sex offenders in Jacksonville…dear god. You might as well just assume everyone is one.

^ Hahaha!! I probably shouldn’t be laughing, but the way you put that is pretty funny, lol.

I know lots of you are looking for apartments and I figured I would see if I could help out. Im not sure what many of you are looking for… I live with someone and we split the bills down the center and I pay $350 for rent, electric, cable and even netflix. I live in Southwest Villas, Its off of 20th but towards the front near the estates. I have lived here for two years now and I have had no problems. Most people say 20th is not a safe street but that is as you go further down 20th… Like I said I am near the front like two complexes away from the estates(which is one of the nicest apartments in Gainesville). Its like 5-10 min from UF. Anyways I pay $500(split btwn two people $250) a month for a 1 bedroom apartment. If you have a roomate and dont mind sharing a room its a good setup! The bed rooms are HUGE too! Hope that helped!

Thanks for the input on apartment places guys…

Lshackelford; southwest villas is on my list of places to visit… is it a nice place? by nice i don’t mean luxurious, just clean and roach free! i can deal with ants and spiders (not that i want to), but no roaches for me… also is it a loud party complex?

@Steel88… yep it seemed to me like Gainesville is like Jacksonville’s westside if you know what I mean… I live in Atlantic Beach which is not bad like jacksonville… as long as you stay out of Mayport rd. lol

@gatorgirl… Jacksonville is pretty big so you get a whole lot of people in a very large area so what steel said is kinda right … but still is like any other town it has the good side and the bad parts, and the creepy downtown and the ghetto area, and the apartments crammed with 10 illegals in a 2-bed unit… it’s just a matter of finding out what part of town is the good one and what side of town to stay out of.

Honestly what really concerns me is finding a place where my car will be safe, not that it’s worth a lot of money, but it’s the only car I have and if it poofs away i can’t just magically get another one, so I’m that’s why I’m so concerned about safety issues…

hsb1104; what apartment complex do you live in? I looked up Legacy at Fort Clarke, and then I checked with the rts website, and it would take 2 buses to get to school, and because of the scheduling it estimated the travel time at 50 minutes :S

kttn2103: Southwest Villas is nice. Its pretty plain… It doesnt have a pool but they do allow you to use another apartments pool whenever you want! Also it doesn’t look all that great but yes its clean, the people who work there are very nice and It has a lot of trees covering the apartment so there are some bugs but we have had like one spider(tiny) creep into our apartment from leaving the door open. I shouldn’t have left the door open anyways. lol Other than that no problems with roaches or anything else. No it is a quiet place! Every now and then I hear some music when the estates have pool parties but other than that no problems! A good thing about all the trees covering the apartments is that makes our electricity cheaper! We barley have to turn on the AC! :)

Oh UF, you are a confusing beast. Just got denied and admitted at the same time…

"We regret to inform you that your application for the Fall 2011 term was not among the limited number we were able to approve for admission.

Official notification and explanation have been mailed to your home.

We wish you success in your educational goals, and hope you will consider applying to the University of Florida as a graduate or professional student in the future."

Then:

“Possible Reasons for Denial
*CONDITIONAL ADMIT: PLEASE REVIEW A FORTHCOMING LETTER FROM THE DEPT OF MATERIAL SCIENCE & ENGINEERING FOR DETAILS OF THE CONDITIONS OF YOUR ADMISSION.”

Weird. Custom admissions FTW (I hope).

This definitively calls for a call tomorrow.

Thanks, gatorgirl! ^ I’m so sorry for the unfortunate news. I have a feeling I’m going to get the same thing or even worse: denial. At least, the stress is relieved in knowing your decision (in that sort of aspect). I wish I just had a decision in my hands so I can take action.

I wasn’t good enough it seems. I wish I understood how they calculate their GPAs…I’m confused as to why mine is so low.

Are you a HS/DE student?

After being denied last night, my status finally changed to this morning:

"Congratulations!!! Your application to the University of Florida for the Fall 2011 term has been approved!

Official notification will arrive by mail, including the conditions of your admission as well as important orientation and immunization information.

We look forward to seeing you on campus soon, and welcome you to the Gator Nation!

Conditions of Admission
*CONDITIONAL ADMIT: PLEASE REVIEW A FORTHCOMING LETTER FROM THE DEPT OF MATERIAL SCIENCE & ENGINEERING FOR DETAILS OF THE CONDITIONS OF YOUR ADMISSION."

There must have been some kind of computer synchronization glitch.

Good luck everyone! Maybe I’ll see some of you on campus!

I’m not sure what an HS/DE student is.

I checked again this morning and it still says I wasn’t excepted.

I’m trying to get a hold of an adviser in the agriculture department, but no one will answer.

What I don’t understand is they are saying that I have a 2.35 in my preprofs, but I have absolutely no idea how they got that. I’ve calculated it many times using the UF guide and looking at the classes they said I needed, and I always come out with over a 3.0.

Congratulations for getting in Joebobjoe.

@tentiekyo, Did you retake courses (UF has no grade-forgiveness)? What program in CALS did you apply to? HS/DE = High School Dual Enrollment, so practically they’re receiving their AA & HS Diploma.

Congrats to the new admits.

Kttn: you’re right, I didn’t realize you meant west of I-75. That would take quite a bit of time since you’d have a bus change as well. I actually rent out a condo from someone in a condo complex by the mall (I had 4 pets when I moved here so none of the typical places would work for me). I would suggest checking out some of the complexes along SW 62nd St. I’ve heard really good things about most the complexes along there (Spy glass, Lakewood Villas, Rockwood Villas, The District on 62nd, etc.)

hsb1104: I’ll check those out when I go down next week… I have a cat and a 80lb dog so I think it can be a little challenging for me to try to find a place that’s clean and safe; AND my cat is welcomed and my dog doesn’t fall into the list restricted breeds… gosh what a mess, it seems like finding a place to live is just as stressful as waiting to be admitted, it’s like the stress only gets worse afterwards lol

Thanks lshackelford for the feedback. I will check out your complex for sure. :)

I know what you mean. I went through the same thing… my dogs are under 25 lbs but most places don’t take more than 2 pets. What breed is your dog?

I’m going to be moving into cobblestone this summer and I have 3 dogs. I think they dont have a pet limit. They wanted like 30 per dog a month, but because they were adopted and I signed a 2 year lease they made it 10 per dog per month with is very doable.

hsb1104; i have an olde english bulldogge and i’ve been rejected from other places because of him, some insurance companies put bulldogs in general in their restriction list because more than chewers they’re shredders that love to eat baseboards and doors. My dog finally grew out of it, but when he was puppy he destroyed half of my boyfriend’s dresser in one night of chewing.

julius305; did they show you your actual unit before signing the lease or did you just look at a model?
