accepted/ denied uf transfer fall 2011

I honestly don’t know about UF, I can only guesstimate based on my friend who’s also on a waiting list. Her school has a deadline for enrollment for new transfer students; so whomever doesn’t sign up by the deadline is out, and then they know how many seats they have left and start calling people on the order of the list.

And sorry if I’m asking a dumb question, but, what did you mean with “the roles”?

Ufarch: What major did you apply to? Most department/colleges give deadlines for notification dates, so other students will either accept or reject UF’s offer of admission before your deadline.

thanks steel88! hang in there. i know how tough the wait is…i started to think i hadn’t even applied like it was all an illusion in my head.

i am definitely having trouble with the whole housing situation. i’m more interested in having good roommies than a superb room. i’m just waiting on the help of friends i have there and i guess my sorority too. anybody secure an aptmt yet? i think i’ll go look at stuff when i attend to orientation.

Congrats scgirl!!! It really does feel like you’ve just lost 50 pounds after your application gets approved!

@lavander, Steel: Thanks! I hope the best for the both of you!

Hi everybody, I have been following this thread for a while now and have gotten a feel for where I might be as far as being a competitive applicant, but still have some concern because I have no volunteer hours… I did just begin volunteering at two locations for a total of 5 hours per week but am not sure that will make any difference.

Like pretty much everyone here, have always wanted to go to UF and have kept that hope reasonably alive with a good academic record and hard work:
4.0 unweighted overall and 4.0 Preprofessional GPA from Florida CC
42 Credits complete, will have AA for transfer

Sports activities are limited, although I have spent the last 5 winters extensively sport fishing on a world-class level (not sure if thats a good thing or not?!) and have thereby won numerous awards.

Have not had a “regular” job, although I have run my own neighborhood landscape business for the past 4 years, usually entailing about 10-15 hrs of work per week. Also variously employed in the commercial fishing industry up until this year.
Also, 1.5 years of informal internship with the President of a private investment fund (I think over $1b under management, but no disclosure) doing research and analysis intensive projects studying investment opportunities.

Intending to transfer for Spring semester (if its not too late?) into warrington with an emphasis on finance. Not that it makes any difference, I am also relatively young–I will be a little over 18 by the time of my transfer.

I know you all have gone through this, so any opinions/criticisms would be greatly appreciated. CONGRATS to all accepted!!!

jpalmer, with those stats I’d say apply Ivy league. You should get into UF no problem; however, are you dual enrolled?

@jpalmer,
Warrington guarantees admission for transfers meeting the requirements according to web site, [UF Business](http://warrington.ufl.edu/sb/admissions/cctransfers.asp). You should be fine if you do what they ask.

JPalmer1493; the deadline for the Business college for Spring transfer doesn’t come up until November 1st, so you have plenty of time to apply.

Your stats are pretty good. I have the same GPA and transferred from Fl CC. No sports, nor volunteering; however, I have been working and being mentored for the past two years by a former professor at UF; I assume that helped my application but GPA weighs more than anything on your app; and having your own little business sure looks good in the app. for your particular college. I think everybody here agrees that you have a pretty good chance of being accepted.

Thanks to all for the input and info, gives me alot more (as you know, much needed) confidence. Really scared me that I might have to delay everything just to accumulate service hours.

Steel88, I have not done any dual enrollment–I thought about it, but it was just really early already.

Thanks again to everyone for sharing their info on this thread, certainly has helped me immensely. Will cross my fingers and give an update when I find anything out.

thanks Bblacky! you definitely understood my relief.

jpalmer1493, you sound like you have a great shot. from what i know, colleges like to see commitment and diversity in their applicants-both of which you possess. your unique fishing hobby makes you interesting and your landscaping business shows dedication. not to mention you’ve already held an internship within the scope of your intended major/profession. i think beginning community service hours now is as good a time as any, but find something that truly interests you so that it comes off as even more genuine to the reader of your application. i didn’t have a ton of community service hours when i applied to college as a freshman or as a transfer, and it didn’t seem to make an impact.(actually i think where it can make the biggest difference is with scholarships). i did have a service project last semester though, as i was applying to uf as a transfer. but like i said-i didn’t have a ton of hours accumulated or anything. so don’t sweat it!

good luck!! you can doooo itttt :)

Scgirl21,
Thanks so much for the info and support! Planning on applying within the next two weeks… Will give back to the thread when I find some thing out.

I’m headed to orientation tomorrow. Can anyone comment on how it was or what to expect?
Best of luck to all of those who are waiting!

Jpalmer1493: Fishing is a sport?

Lol I’m not sure about that either, hence the caveat in the original post… The only reason I even mentioned it is because of the level I’ve been fortunate enough to do it on and the immense teamwork and effort it takes to be competitive at that level. Idk maybe it will help…

So I checked my status and it says “We regret to inform you that your application for the Fall 2011 term was not among the limited number we were able to approve for admission, We wish you success in your educational goals, and hope you will consider applying to the University of Florida as a graduate or professional student in the future.” Possible reasons for denial were that I was missing a prereq. That’s ridiculous , I’m giving them a call. I’m taking summer classes too. Oh and I applied in August, so I don’t know how they couldn’t approve my application. If anyone gets accepted cals after me, I’ll be shocked.

Wow lavender, are you currently taking that prereq over this summer??

I am. I was going to take Calc but then our campus didn’t offer it anymore. I don’t know why I can’t just take it at UF when I transfer? It’s not a prereq for any of the classes I have to take besides physics and I don’t plan taking that until I finish orgo.

Ah that could be your problem  I know Calc was one of the pre-reqs actually required to transfer for me… there’s ones that are required for transferring then there’s others that you can do after you transfer… like I had to have calc, bio, and gen chem to transfer. Maybe try explaining to them that it wasn’t offered?

julius305: Seeing as nobody responded, can you give us a rundown of your experience at orientation?

@UForBust,

Boring and some sessions seemed useless! $73 seem too much for a preview like this. Lunch isn’t provided as the flyer mentioned. There will be some handy information given depending on the optional session you choose to attend. You meet UF students and students in your program. I believe that 73$ should be reduce dramatically!

BTW they said we’re getting block tuition next year, bright futures will be lower and their tuition will be higher. Who’s making these changes!
