Accepted direct to engineering via petition, chances of majoring in CE?

Hello,
In March I was admitted to UW, but only to pre-sciences. This was disappointing so I filed a petition reasoning that having another set of eyes look at my application could be helpful. Today I was accepted direct to the college of engineering. I applied under computer engineering and was wondering if there is a high chance I will be able to major in computer engineering now that I am directly in to the college of engineering. I know that on the website it says that it is not guaranteed that you will be able to major in the major stated on your application, only that you will be able to major in an engineering major. Does anybody know what factors affect being able to major in the major stated on the application? Is it dependent on prerequisite gpa?

It will be holistic, so do get that high GPA but also be involved in engineering-related clubs and service. If you can do research for a professor in your desired department, that will help, too. But, research positions can be hard to get.

“The opportunity to participate in experiential learning is deeply empowering and is pervasive in all ten departments in the College of Engineering.“

“Students are strongly encouraged to pursue undergraduate research opportunities before completing their degree. Undergraduate research opportunities fall into two categories: part-time during the academic year and full-time summer programs. Students often earn credit for research during the academic year while summer programs are more often funded and usually include an academic component focused on pursuing graduate school.”

“The Allen School is committed to offering research opportunities to its undergraduate majors. Research is an exciting, and sometimes challenging, process of discovering something completely new and communicating the discovery to others.”

okay, thank you so much for the info!

I am in a similar situation. I had applied for a major in Computer Engineering and was admitted as an Engineering Undeclared student.
I am very keen on pursuing CE at UW but I have heard that it is extremely competitive to get into it.
Does anybody know the % or number of students accepted into CE?

The first cohort of the DTC students have not even been placed yet, there are absolutely no stats with the new admission process.
