I just wanted to share the good news with everyone here…my daughter applied for Fall Transfer 2020 with everyone else and was prepared to wait until March to find out if she was accepted but in the beginning of December she received an email from SDSU inviting her to move her application to Spring 2020. Of course she did and was accepted yesterday. She will start on Jan 21st. We are very excited for her.
@dogrunner1: Must be something new since I have only seen Spring admits for special circumstances such as the Military.
Congratulations on her acceptance and can you post her stats and major? She is a local SD resident but came back from attending an OOS school correct?
Best of luck to her.
Yes you are correct, she went to CU Boulder for a year and then decided to come home and attend CC. Her major GPA is 3.9 but her overall GPA is 3.8 with all the Engineering classes she took at Boulder (couple of B’s!). I think because she had everything (Golden 4 and 60 transferrable units) completed after summer and being local with a good GPA, plus she is taking classes through Open University. The email said it was a very unique opportunity for her to be offered this invitation. We are quite proud.
Thank you for the information and best of luck to your D.
Thank you so much…I think just the relief of knowing she got in and not having wait for March is the best part.
@Gumbymom Hello again, I thought you might be interested to know-my daughter attended orientation yesterday and she mentioned there were quite a few new students there (more than she expected for Spring transfer). She chatted with a few of them and they were sent the same email that she received from the recruitment dept of SDSU. They were all local, had finished their golden 4 and had 60+ transferrable credits done by the previous summer. Some of them did not have the best GPA’s either-barely above the cut-off for their majors.
I am guessing they were all admitted early because they would have been admitted for Fall anyway so SDSU decided it would make sense to split up the large number of new students between the two semesters-not sure about their reasoning. This may help future applicants to have this info. Hopefully they continue with this.
@dogrunner1: Thank you for the update and it does make sense that if there is room in the Spring semester to admit some of the local applicants early, it helps ease the burden of so many applicants starting in the Fall. I would imagine depending upon how many units some of the Transfer students come in with from their CC’s that there are some students that are able to complete their degree at the end of Fall semester vs. Spring semester especially if they take some summer sessions.
Oh yes I am sure…also another CC poster mentioned that he/she called SDSU and they said they accepted 300 students for this Spring and it was something that they may or may not continue to do but I would say to future applicants that it is worth a try.
