Out of curiosity,
Is anybody out there who is currently attending a boarding school that was not the first option?

Can WE know how that experience has been?
Why did you choose that school? (If there were others options)
What other options you had?
If you have the chance, would you change schools now?

This might help and give another perspective to all of you guys applying to boarding school this year who might not get in the school you prefer.

I think.

... or maybe you know of somebody who went through this experience?

my daughter applied to five boarding schools and was accepted at three, but not her first choice. she was very disappointed, and then had trouble deciding between two of the three acceptances. however she had a wonderful experience (4 years) at the school that she did choose.

Many years ago I was accepted to all the schools I applied to, but didn't get adequate financial aid at my first choice (Milton.) I ended up going to a very different school instead and had a wonderful experience there. By the end of my first year away at school I was really glad that things turned out the way they did.

I think most people have only a dim idea of what they really want when they're applying, and will probably be happy at a wider range of schools than they even consider. Not getting in somewhere (or not being able to go) can be disappointing, but it's not the end of the world--and often it's genuinely for the best.
