Accepted into Drexel, am I required to live on-campus?

Hi everyone, and congrats to all of you who were admitted.

I’m an international student who got into Drexel. The merit scholarship they offered covers tuition. However there are other costs like ‘Room and Board’ which makes it an extra $20.000.

Am I required to live on-campus? Or pay the full amount they’re asking for textbooks etc ?

Which of the following costs can I avoid?

Textbooks:$1,308.00
Supplies:$670.00
Room and Board:$14,367.00
Transportation:$1,764.00
Personal Expenses:$2,514.00

I don’t think you are required to live on campus, but you might if you are a freshman. I am a transfer and I believe I am not required to.

If you can find somewhere to live for like $400-$500, which I see students finding places in Philadelphia for around that much you can cur down on room and board pretty well. Textbooks are always tricky. Sometimes you will spend that much and other times you won’t. Same with supplies, though I don’t think I ever came close. Maybe a calculator purchase will get you up there. Transportation you can get public transportation access pretty cheap. Personal Expenses is probably reasonable pending how much you spend on food. If you get a dining pass I think you can reduce that cost.

I read Drexel requires Freshman to live on campus with a parent or guardian. Otherwise, there are people that live off campus to save on expenses.

Hey,

Did you get the Drexel Global Scholarship ? I’m an international student as well. Curious which scholarship covered your full tuition?

I applied for the DGS, but I haven’t recieved any word from that. My tuition was covered by a combination of Drexel Grant and A.J. Drexel Scholarship.

At drexel you are required to live on campus in a dorm first year unless you are a commuter (and provide documentation of where you live etc.). Sophomores they are desperately trying to make live in Drexel approved housing in order to make more money. I know of sophomores who live in off campus housing i.e. apartments however I think you might have to pull some strings now. Textbooks i havent spent anywhere close to that amnt as many of them are free online or you can get them ANYWHERE OTHER THAN DREXEL BARNES & NOBLE. Some classes won’t need a book at all. Some terms I only spend like $100 or less for textbooks. But if you need a textbook and its a lot its better to just get it you can always sell it (and not to the street guys, sell it back to amazon or post it on ebay to actually get a good chunk of the money back). I’ve already bought books on amazon for like 100 then sold if back to them for like 80 in amazon gift cards. The other miscellaneous expenses aren’t that accurate. Keep in mind this is Drexel just saying look at stuff you may need other than tuition and housing (they don’t actually send you a bill for transportation). Food, you are required to do the meal plan freshman year. It gets old quick as there are many cheaper, better options. If there’s one thing i’ve splurged on as an upperclassmen with the extra co-op money its food and drink in Philly. Happy decision making!
