I just got into Rutgers' school of arts and sciences, but i wanted to go to engineering, should i try to transfer from one school to the other, or better start at community college and then try to get into engineering?

Unless you’re really concerned about the cost, I’d say just stay in SAS… I don’t know much about the engineering program, but I’m sure there are general education classes you’ll have to get out of the way anyway. From what I’ve heard, it’s easier to transfer inside Rutgers (school-to-school) than from another school. I’m applying this Feb for a school-to-school transfer for next fall.

fyi: You’d have to stay in SAS for a year before transferring programs.

^ what “thatsthekey” said

Just attend Rutgers SAS and transfer after a year. Get the general requirements out of the way this year and just apply for admittance into the Engineering program for the following year (I think you can make an attempt to transfer in for the next semester also, but I’m not sure)

The general engineering curriculum can be found online, I think. (If not, I’m in the School of Engineering, so I could give it to you.)

There are a few classes I am not sure are available to SAS kids, and those are Intro to Engineering and Intro to Computers for Engineers (a.k.a. Matlab). There is a General Chemistry for Engineers as well, and I’m unsure if that is the only chemistry that counts at Rutgers.

edit: Also, humanities/social science electives are really limited. and the requirements are weird. I can elaborate if you’d like, but just download the elective sheet and you should be okay for the first year.

The Engineering Office of Academic Affairs is pretty helpful, though, they should be able to answer your questions if you call them. (They have a schedule, though, so be mindful.)

Go here: [Welcome to the Office of Academic Affairs](http://coewww.rutgers.edu/oaa/)

Good luck!

Congratulations on your acceptance!
How long ago did you apply I thought Rutgers had a mid- Feb acceptance date, but it sounds like they are rolling admissions?
