How does the rest of the process go for those of you that have been through it? We know about the other scholarships and application deadlines for those, and the whole FAFSA for financial aid- but what about sending in a deposit? Son was also accepted to LSU and in the acceptance letter it gave information about sending in deposit and info to sign up for housing already! Just wondering what the next steps will be. Or is all of that on Gibson?

I don’t remember when they send you the detailed info about deposit deadlines, housing, etc. but the bottom line is there is really nothing you have to do until May 1, if you want to hold onto your money until the deadline. Except for the things you mention of course. But outside of those, the things that will happen are enrollment deposit, housing choice form, housing deposit (Tulane does the whole housing thing in a much later and shorter time frame than LSU apparently does), some medical filings to show vaccinations, and you will need to decide if you want to go to Orientation in June. There are also minor issues like declining the insurance if you are going to keep him on your policy, things like that. But none of that starts until May 1 and after. There might be info on Gibson or the Tulane website, but they will definitely send you info in the mail as well.

Thanks FC! So we can just relax and enjoy the rest of senior year for the most part! I think LSU needs to start with housing early because they have over 30,000 students. They also do Residential College housing. 2014 Orientation dates aren’t up yet but as soon as they are we will choose so I can book flights.

I am sure you are right about LSU. It is like populating a medium sized town within a town. But by all means, get the FAFSA and CSS forms in to FA and otherwise absolutely enjoy senior year!

Yep… Get in those forms and see whether Tulane is financially feasible. Obviously it is a lot more expensive than a public like LSU even with merit aid or finaid for most students. I think the worst thing is to start at a school like Tulane and then either have to leave or be settled with massive debt. Every family has to decide on their own given their circumstances and values. Also, parents should keep in mind the cost of a potential grad education. So, don’t call LSU off yet, compare net cost when all fin packages are in and decide. May 1 is a long way…

We’ll find a way to make Tulane work. He’s wanted it so long. I work at a college, I know all about the financial aid…my older son went to the school I work at because it was free for him and he hated it.

dolphnlvr6-is your son starting fall 2014? Are you from Northeast? My D will be starting. We can share ideas.

Yes to both! We are from PA. So very excited!

Dolphnlvr6-what will your son’s major be?

Political Science (and coordinate major in Social Policy and Practice) and Philosophy- he wants to go to law school. What about your Daughter?

She is not sure yet. She loves English-maybe teaching. I am a lawyer-she thinks about that a little.
