I put down my Tulane deposit last night! So excited, but worried...will this affect my financial aid package?

No. They know the deposits are not enough money to keep you from accepting another offer if they don’t provide enough aid.

Ah, major relief. Thank you!

To further your relief, I was also reminded that if you notify Tulane before May 1, you get your housing deposit refunded. You would know your financial aid package well before that. Also, if after you get your FA package it isn’t quite what you hoped, don’t be shy about talking to Tulane. Sometimes there can be adjustments. Not always, but it can be discussed.

Awesome! Thank you so much for that info, extremely helpful! You wouldn’t happen to know how roomates and housing works, would you? I did the housing contract and put my 1st and 2nd choices, but I am unsure what happens next?

Sure, I can help with that. Gabby will be doing it too, so she can weigh in with the current reality, in case something changed from last year. Anyway, there are 4 basic ways to get a roommate. 1) Tulane will open up a site called Roommate Click or something like that where you go and say what you are like to live with and what you are looking for, and someone else sees it and contacts you to say “Hey, we might get along, let’s talk!”. Then you would both put in the same 1st and 2nd choices (don’t worry, you can change yours if you need to) and specify each other, and 9,999 out of 10,000 they will put you together.

2) Same thing, except there is a Facebook page instead of Roommate Click.

3) Go to Orientation or some other Tulane event and meet someone in person. I know a number of people that met their roommate at June orientation.

4) Let Tulane randomly assign you a roommate. There are some people that actually like to do this. But I would have to say most do one of the first 3.

Good luck!

oh, ok, that makes sense. when do they do the roomate assignments. like when do you put down the person you want to room with?

There is one more I can add to the roommate searching tools - uroomsurf.com

I don’t remember exactly when they officially start taking your roommate requests, but I think it was kind of late, like July. Maybe they wait until after orientation on purpose. I think the Roommate Click started in May or maybe even June. Facebook I guess is started by someone other than Tulane?? As you can see I am kind of clueless on the details for this, but I am pretty sure it was July sometime when my D told them who she wanted to room with, and they found each other on Roommate Click (and it has worked out well).

ok, thank you! good to hear that it worked well, I may do it that way!
