My d is scheduled to attend the last accepted student day at U. Michigan on March 27. She was accepted into the U. Mich. college of engineering OOS. Has anyone on CC attended an accepted student day for 2009? She received a likely letter from Cornell, is in at GA Tech, UNC, U of MD (instate) also. She is waiting for April 1 to see if she gets in at U. of Va. My question is whether she should postpone a trip to U. Mich. until after April 1 because she would actually prefer to be closer to home when she goes to college? Or is U. of Michigan that special that she should see it during an accepted student day? Thanks so much for your insight.

FYI, there is also a student Welcome day that has a similar format being held on April 17-18 (I believe it is open to all admitted students.)
If MI is not your d's first choice and if UVA is, she may wish to wait for that one.
That program includes the ability to be paired with a current student to spend the Friday night in a dorm, so it's actually a little more informative than the typical campus day.
That said, we feel MI is special and worth a visit, but we have a clear bias (including a son who wanted to be in-state : )
Cheers,
K

We went to Michigan for the very first accepted students day back in January and really enjoyed the campus visit (D was in LSA, not engineering though). If you haven't visited the campus previously and your daughter is seriously considering it, I would think it would be wise to stick with the original plan of visiting now. Michigan does a great job exposing students (and their parents) to all the U has to offer. Has she visited any of the other schools on her list? If she hasn't, and intends to, you might find April to be a blur of visits and travel.

My D was just accepted early to UVa as a Rodman Scholar (we are instate) - prior to that Michigan was easily her top choice. Perhaps they'll see each other on Grounds next year.

Good luck with the planning! Sounds like your D has some great options and some tough choices to make.
