When did you get notified about scholarships? D was accepted in December, but has not heard yet about scholarship.

Scholarship came with acceptance package…since your daughter applied early, she would not have gotten any award at that point…
Call the financial aid office.

My son found out about his scholarship with his acceptance sometime in December.

scores were SAT I - 2210; SAT II - 710 and 730

I recieved the loyola scholarship for $8,000 a year, plus some other grants and loans that didn’t amount to much.

SAT: 1370/2100
GPA: 3.9 UW 4.3 W
strong EC’s and essay.

I felt kind of shafted to be honest…

We were wondering the same thing. D got accepted EA in December, got nothing with the acceptance letter, does that mean nothing will be offered? I thought they were waiting to see the accepted student pool.

Excuse me. I have to comment here. Someone with an SAT below 1400, receiving a scholarship worth 8,000 a year (in an EXTREMELY DIFFICULT economic climate for universities with their endowments HAMMERED by wallstreet) and saying “I kinda feel shafted?” Goodness gracious.

You are LUCKY to get a scholarship, dear. The NORMAL cutoff for academic scholarships at Fordham is around 1400. You should be proud and blessed and if you need more money, apply for financial aid.

I have news for you. Fordham is FULL of students with VERY high stats. It will shock you actually. My kid had THREE students on her dorm room floor last year with 1600 SAT’s. Fordham is a prestigious and rigorous school, despite what people say here (and accuse me of being a cheerleading polllyanna.) I can assure you, you will be supremely challenged. Every year students bomb out by Thanksgiving. Got it?

While your stats are laudable (and I DO APPLAUD YOU!) they don’t entitle you to a full ride, or any ride for that matter. You were just admitted to one of the most respected Jesuit colleges in the United States. (You have no idea how prestigious it really is yet…wait til you get there and get to know the amazing faculty! Simply amazing faculty! As in 70% with Ivy League credentials, Rhodes Scholars, Fulbright Scholars, endowed Chairs etc etc etc). You were given a nice scholarship in honor of your hard work in high school. LOTS OF KIDS DIDNT GET WHAT YOU GOT.

If you need more, apply for financial aid and they will help you.

I am sorry to vent like this, but frankly it needs to be said. Congratulations on your admssion to Fordham University and a scholarship! I certainly hope you come to Fordham and become part of this amazing school.

jptmom: Scholarships are given out mostly at time of admission, but some late scholarships are handed out. If your kid is in that scholarship stat arena, then by all means call admissions and make and inquiry. Maybe they can help you. If you need more money, apply for financial aid. Frankly, some grants are as generous as scholarships and while they lack any prestige, they do the same thing: reducing that tuition bill in the fall.

Finally, Fordham had over 24,100 applications this year. A record year. Anyone who is admitted there for the 1,700 seats in the incoming Freshman Class should be very proud and excited about coming to Fordham. But its getting amazingly competitive and that also applies to scholarships. You would be shocked at the number of applications that they receive which are 4.0 students and SAT’s above 2000/2400 or 1300/1600.

My son was accepted EA in December–1350/1600, 1990/2400, 4.39 wgpa, soccer and indoor/outdoor track all 4 years, NHS, Spanish Honor Society, community service, other ECs, private competitive catholic school in NJ–he got nothing. We haven’t heard about financial aid yet either. Needless to say, he probably won’t be going to Fordham. It wasn’t his first choice anyway.

My kid had very similar stats to yours ^^^^ and got NO scholarship money last year. She did get a very nice financial aid package, for which we are grateful. She was NHS, national AP scholar with distinction, amazing EC’s, all state musician. But she is at Fordham and doing very well. Sometimes the price of happiness and success is expensive so consider that.

If you applied for FA and have not heard, then I strongly suggest you call them in the morning and inquire. You might be very surprised at what they offer you.

Congratulations to your son on his accomplishments, his welcome admission to Fordham. Can we encourage you to get him to attend Fordham?

We did apply for financial aid, and Fordham is the only school we haven’t heard from. Right now he is trying to decide between Loyola in Maryland (he got $15,000/year and it’s been his first choice school from the beginning) and the College of New Jersey (great school, in-state tuition, and $3,000/year merit scholarship). I really liked Fordham, but we just can’t afford it without some merit scholarship or financial aid.

I didn’t get Financial Aid yet, that’s my estimated package because I applied EA. Hope to get my package later in the mail today!

CLRana9017… nice package! Could you please share your EFC. We haven’t heard anything yet but are trying to estimate ourselves. Thanks and congrats!

My son was accepted EA. He was awarded 7000 LaFarge, 11,700 Grant, 3500 subsidized Stafford, and 2000 unsubsidized Stafford in January. We had some changes to our FAFSA and CSS Profile which reduced our EFC. We were told he would be getting an update by mid April.
