I'm not sure how many people are around who are applying this year, but I thought I'd start an accepted thread to see where people have gotten in and where they think they might go. I'm still getting letters since I'm a transfer student, but so far I've gotten into MCAD, Ringling, and MICA. I'm waiting on SVA and RISD.
This whole thing has been ridiculously nerve-wracking, much worse than the first time around I think. I still have no idea where I'm going to go, but I'm visiting MICA this weekend and Ringling in a couple of weeks.

Good luck with your decision! Glad to see you’re visiting, that’s very important.

Accepted at SVA, MICA, CCA, Ringling, SAIC and Pratt - off to MICA this weekend as well. Illustration major. Deciding between MICA, SVA and Pratt.

Congrats! Maybe I’ll see you there, I’m an illustration major as well.

Can you give a review on Ringling when you come back from visiting? I’m also accepted for the Fall 11 term (Graphic & Interactive Communications Major), several other schools too - so I’m not sure where should I go…

Sure! I’m kind of frustrated about picking, especially since the deadline for Ringling is May 1st, while it’s the end of May for MICA and RISD.

I visited Ringling recently - no time now will give my review later tonight.

My son was accepted into PAFA, MICA, Pratt, Pratt MWP, VCU Arts, Kendall, and Towson University.

He hasn’t completely made a decision yet, but it is between MICA and PAFA for top choice. He’s a scholarship finalist at MICA, so the final decision will wait until after April 15, when MICA makes their decisions.

My daughter was accepted at VCUarts, Ringling, MICA, Pratt, and RISD, and we’ll be seeing many of you at MICA on Sunday. Ringling was her first choice, and we did visit. It was warm (which was nice), the facilities were incredible, the kids nice, and the professors approachable and engaged. It was my D’s first choice when we went down there. and she had a nice visit. However, she is coming from a small school, and the feel that Ringling was another small school, with no larger non-art student population close by (like RISD with Brown and VCUarts with VCU) and a city that, despite its reputation as a happening art scene, did seem (1) far away from campus and (2) an art scene for the over 70 or tourist set.

She has also rejected Pratt (does not want to live in NY, which is odd since she was raised in a city (DC) and not the best neighborhood, but she came away from a visit there with the “really nice place to visit, wouldn’t…”). So it is between MICA, VCUarts, and RISD – she did the summer RISD program and liked it, we see MICA this weekend and VCU next week.

Really curious how all of you with very similar choices are leaning and what your deciding factors are. Somehow I thought this would be the easy part!

Hi, I live about 2 hours from ringling, and have have many friends that have gone there, and I have visited many times, and i think the word i’d use to describe it is just, “quaint.” Theres nothing too special about it, besides their animation department, i mean, if you want to go to school for animation or anything involving computers, that is THE place to be, but for all other majors, it isnt. The location is near very little job opportunities, and nobody has ever heard of the school, except for very very few people. They are nice people there, but the campus is tiny, cramped within a few blocks, and really worn down. Its a small school, but most people are commuters, and live not near the campus, and are much older than 18-22, a lot of people in late 20s/30s. Its one of the very few art programs in florida, you’d think for the size of the state that there would be more, but sadly no.
Ive been accepted to university of south carolina, florida state, cleveland institute of the arts, pratt, university of the arts london, but im still waiting on six more schools umich, edinburgh college of arts, cca, mass art, smfa, and maine college of art. Im hoping those letters will come sometime soon!

Most people are commuters explains alot. I really wanted to love the school and frankly, was very disappointed. I agree with the posters above. The campus itself was quaint however, the area surrounding it had a very depressed economic feeling. I was there for three days without a car, stayed across the street, walked to the city and/or took the bus. There wasn’t much to go in to the city for though - we did go out to Long Boat, I think that is what it was called - lots of very upscale stores, very tourist centered. Not a young peoples city from anything I saw and I did not find any so called “art scene”. Now maybe I could deal with all of these issues but what finished it for me was that the campus seemed really, really dead. The weather was great yet I saw very few students, alas the school does not enroll very many students but still… some kids do seem to thrive there from posts I have read so I guess it is just a matter of the right match. I think in the industry, particularly animation, Ringling is widely known and quite reputable. I found the area to be very uninspiring and the school felt very isolated, I could see myself being very lonely there and none of this would be good for my art work. I so wanted to love you Ringling! I just think I would be miserable there. Hoping to love MICA this weekend, fingers crossed.

Congrats debbi801, kssdc2001’s D and sophiabutcher! :D

Hmm I guess Ringling is seeming more and more unlikely for me. I hope I like MICA too. The first time I visited, I hadn’t slept the night before so I was pretty miserable/not a good judge of the campus. I’ve been completely stalking their website since I got in, though. I half hope I don’t get into RISD because it would make my decision a lot easier. (Only half hope. Ok, nvm I really hope I get in)

Good luck with RISD gabbyness. Regarding Ringling, I think one needs to see it for themselves. Before going down there I read several posts from parents and kids that absolutely love it. So it is the right school for some kids, just not me.

I was just wondering how long SVA takes to notify students?

lol thanks goodschool. I’ll be down there for accepted students day, so I’ll see then.

prny113 I got an email from SVA on the 4th that said they would have a decision in 3-4 weeks…I’m sure it’ll come any day now…

I hope you all have good visits at Mica this weekend. Just so you know, it’s been strangely cold and very rainy lately. Don’t let that fool you!

If they let you (and it never hurts to ask), try riding one of the Mica shuttles around. Some go to local shopping areas, some go to other nearby colleges. You can talk with other students on the way.

I really loved MICA yesterday, especially the illustration department. It’s looking more likely that I’ll go there even if I get into RISD, but we’ll see.

gabbyness - me too! I was so surprised that it really felt like a campus - Baltimore has lots of options for college age kids. We didn’t have a car so we walked miles around the school, some kinda abandoned areas but nothing too sketchy looking to me - there would be nothing to go there for so not an issue. Did you listen to the presentation in the illustration dept.? If so then we were there together - freaky hey? Right now I favor that “pre-production” work he was talking about - it was like wow, somebody knows exactly what I want! Even though Pratt is in Brooklyn, I am afraid the campus may feel isolated from other parts of the city - I was there for pre-college though and loved it. However, I can see how many kids may never get around to leaving the campus due to work etc. At MICA you are right in the mix of Baltimore. I’m near Boston and Boston is a young, college town but much more expensive than what we saw of Baltimore and a bit more conservative. They picked great student speakers too - sold the school very well. One more visit to Pratt and a look at SVA before I decided on MICA - oh yeah financial aid will have something to say about my decision too.

Awkward hey back. Yeah I was there for the illustration presentation. They all seemed really great. I’m more into sequential art, and I’m glad that they have a couple of courses in it, as well as the club. And the department seemed…well… slightly less hipsterish than the rest of the campus. My lack of fashion sense was making me feel a little inferior yesterday lol. I was also happy that they encourage studying abroad. I spent a year abroad in high school, and would really like to go on exchange again.

Yeah I didn’t really see what people meant about the neighborhood being sketchy at all.

Have fun in New York. Only a week (?) until MICA sends out financial stuff I think…

If I end up at MICA, I have to decide if I want to go through the foundation year, or do sophomore year while finishing up three foundation courses. I feel so old at 21 though. I’m kind of horrified at the prospect of graduating at 25.

You know I am so trying to figure out who you are from the illustration presentation. I got nothing. Didn’t notice any strong fashion sense from anybody I saw, maybe I’m just not tuned into that sort of thing. I didn’t even notice too many hipsters - I may have been too taken with the cute little row houses. But I suppose the boys rolling their own cigarettes would be considered hipsters - they just make me laugh - to each his own. I liked all the little spots around town were you could grab a cup of tea and read or whatever, even if you were by yourself you would feel comfortable and welcome. That makes me sound like a loner, which I am not but I am ready to depend on myself for any downtime and not a social event or whatever. Hope that makes sense. Missed that you were 21 - would you live on campus or off campus? Do you mind living with younger students or do you think they will be too immature? Hmmm, interesting situation you are in.
