Hey everyone. For those of you who were already accepted, did you find out where your living yet?

The only people who have been accepted are the E.D. kids and no, they haven't found out where they're living. Housing assignments are not made until summer.

What would you reccomend askaboutNYU? (Or do we even get to decide?)

I am going to be an RA at Third North residence Hall next year so I may be getting to know some of you. That said it is common knowledge that the two best F.Y.R.E dorms are third north and Hayden. DO NOT ASK FOR BRITTANY OR RUBIN you will be dissapointed. If you have any questions about housing just let me know.

me and a majority of Ed'ers are picking hayden I think, tho a few are switching over to uhall now that its supposeldy being made freshmen.

AskNYU-

What dorm do you recommend for Tisch freshmen? A friend of my sons is in Weinstein and when we last heard, he liked it. Are there any drawbacks to Weinstein. ?

Hi Askabout NYU! My d will be going to NYU for CAP21; which dorm is closest to that studio? I don't even know if it's only one building she'll be in, and I know she'll have "regular" classes 2 days a week. Any info is appreciated!

Weinstein has one advantage and only one, the dining hall. Weinstein has the two best dining halls in the building but aside from that I would definitely not reccomend it. The rooms are old and definitely not nice and the bulding itself is kind of rundown. For all Freshmen I would reccomend either Third North or Hayden. Hayden seems to give the best overall experience followed by third north. U-Hall is being made all Freshmen but it is relatively far from campus and the rooms definitely don't make up for it.

Weinstein has the advantage of having the two best dining halls in it but that is all. The building is kind of old and the rooms are some of the worst available for Freshmen. Most Weinstein kids are not happy with their living situations. That said "not happy" is relative because their rooms will still be nicer than 90% of Freshmen dorms around the country. For All Freshmen I would reccomend Hayden or Third North. Hayden has great RA's a great location and a great staff with events that immediately build a sense of Freshmen community. Third North is huge and has great RA's (like me:) and plan awesome events. Third North is really taking off and getting a reputation as one of the top FYRE dorms. U-Hall is the newest all Freshmen dorm but I would not reccomend it. It is the farthest Freshmen dorm from campus and the rooms DO NOT make up for it. Most of the rooms are being re done to accomodate more students as well. If you want pictures of the rooms just drop me a private email and I can send you some.
Good Luck and We'll see you here

Any dorm with the exception of U-Hall will be within a five minute walk from campus.

Quick question to all ED students: In the letter I received regarding our NYU Home e-mail and such, it says that we can complete our online housing application starting April 4th...

Because that is after some RD kids will get their acceptance letters, are they (RD kids) able to sign up for housing at that time too? I ask because ED kids are supposed to get priority for housing, and if RD kids sign up at the same time, will ED kids still maintain their priority position?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

Don't take one person's word for it, especially someone who's going to be an R.A. next year and is obviously biased. Have a look at the NYU lj housing site:

and get lots of students' opinions on the different dorms. As soon as I saw asknyu state that "most Weinstein kids are not happy with their living situations", I knew I had to post, because, frankly, that's crap. There are people in every dorm who are happy and there are people in every dorm who are not happy. Anyway, inform yourselves before making your choices.

NYUbound, E.D. kids will get to specify particular dorms (usually you list five and almost always get the one you want). R.D. kids only get to specify apartment style or traditional style.

Matth why don't you check the article that WSN news did about dorm happiness and check the stats for Weinstein. I didn't ask for Third North RA"s are assigned but it is common knowledge that the staff at Third North and Hayden are the best. Maybe once you get here (if you do) you'll see this to.

asknyu, thanks for your help but guess what? I'm already here! I live in Weinstein and I've been in almost every other NYU dorm. I didn't say Weinstein was perfect but the comment you made about most people being unhappy is, like I said, crap. There are happy and unhappy people in every dorm. If you can't admit that, then you're just being disingenuous with these kids who are looking for advice. Housing is what you make of it. People need to investigate more than just one person's opinion. That's why I recommended that incoming students read the housing lj community. They'll get a more unbiased view than from just listening to your posts.

lol "housing is what you make of it" You can't make the room or the building at Weinstein as nice as Hayden or Third North or U-Hall. You may like your room but if you honesly say that kids are as happy with Weinstein as they are at Hayden then not only are you delusional but wrong to. Every year Hayden Rubin and Third North are asked for more than any other dorms. The students who are not high on the priority list (for instance you) get placed in dorms that no one wants (Weinstein). I'm not saying you can't have a good time in other dorms just that the surest bet for a good Freshmen year dorm will be 1. Hayden and then 2. Third North. My info comes from RALI leadership modules not my opinon as well.

I've known plenty of people who lived in the Weiner. Weinstien in my opinion is not nearly as nice as the average NYU dorm, but this is relative, we are talking about NYU dorms, which are very nice compared to other colleges' dorms. Weinstein is still way better than the average college dorm in America, to say nothing of freshman dorms (in how many schools do college freshmen have their bathrooms?).

Now of course is MattH is correct to say there are happy and unhappy people in every NYU dorm. That being said, there is no way I'd pick Weinstein over Hayden (I also might be a bit biased since Hayden was my freshmen dorm, but I think the average NYUer would agree with me on this one). Sure Hayden has unhappy people, but the issue is would they be any happier if in Weinstein?, and also is the dorm to blame for their unhappiness or some other factor like bad roommate?

I'd rate the NYU freshmen residence halls like this:

Hayden

Goddard

Third North

Brittany

Rubin

Weinstein

-Now keep in mind this is just my personal opinion, and of course each has its own strenghts and weaknesses....e.g Weinstein is closest to classes, Third North is farther but has nicer rooms, etc. Also, I heard UHall might be turning into a freshmen dorm, if that happens, UHall would be up there with Hayden & Goddard.

Ah, askaboutnyu, why did I know that you'd reply with an immature and snippy reply? Are you sure you're going to be an R.A., because you certainly don't seem to have the maturity that an R.A. should have. Housing IS what you make of it. How you relate to your roommate and floormates, how you decorate your room, how you get involved in dorm-related activities. I never said that kids in Weinstein are as happy as kids in Hayden, because frankly, I don't know that. And the truth is, neither do you, unless of course you have personally surveyed every single kid in both dorms, which you obviously haven't, because I've never been surveyed. You started off this discussion by saying that MOST kids in Weinstein were unhappy and that's just blatantly false.

My suggestion to people to research other opinions and investigate each dorm which is open to them as an option is a mature suggestion. I didn't tell anyone to take my advice and choose Weinstein. Your comment that I am/was 'low priority' is not only insulting, it's a little ridiculous considering I got in E.D. and am a Presidential Scholar. Lots of the people I know who got in E.D. chose Weinstein. Some of my friends chose Hayden, and some Third North. It's a personal decision, which is what I've been saying all along. Grow up. Congratulations on making yourself look really silly and petty to the group of prospective students here on the forum.

Just because Weinstein is the worst Freshmen dorm and you got stuck there doesn't mean you need to be angry and bitter.

I don't really know anything about the housing situation. All I can see is that matth's posts are reasoned and informative (especially that lj link) and that askaboutNYU's posts are mostly attacks on matth. Think about it...
