I just got accepted and housing at Carillon Communities but I did not get into the business school (LEP). I was wondering if could get any help on if there is any way to have them change their decisions or what would happen if I go there and am undecided. I heard about internal transfers but also heard that they aren’t always successful. Has anyone been in the same situation as me and was admitted into the business program?
Internal transfers tp Smith tend to be as competitive as direct admission, making it challenging. But even at that there are students who successfully transfer into Smith. It can be done.
As for changing their decision, you need to understand what it means for a given major to be a LEP, It means that they get more admitted students requesting Business than they have the resources (classrooms, professors, TAs, etc) to accommodate, I do not know the exact numbers, but say they can handle 500 students and get 800 applicants. 300 students, already admitted to the University, do not get into Smith.
At this point, the only way that they could admit you, is to take away the admission to someone who already has it.
My friend’s son got into Letters and Sciences last year instead of Engineering. His mother called up Admissions and asked them to re-evaluate since he had very good stats (ACT 35, Completed AP Calc, AP Physics C, AP Chem). They looked up his application and told her it would be re-evaluated and they sent an e-mail a couple days later that he was admitted to Engineering. If you think your stats would merit admission to Business, you can call and ask for re-evaluation.
