Today, I received the UW welcome package via mail. It has a small certificate saying I have been accepted to College of Arts and Sciences.

Now, I wanted to get into CS or CE, but could not. I'll have to meet the pre-requisites. My first question is , if I do not get admission to CS in second year, can I transfer to CE (under college of Engr) if I meet their requirements?

Second thing, there's one sheet of paper in the package that lists all courses under the 2 headings "Examples of courses that do satisfy this requirement are:" and "Examples of courses that do not satisfy this requirement are:". I do not understand what this all means. Anyone care to explain?

Next, I'll be confirming my enrollment to UW, but chances are I may drop my plan to go to UW later on. Will there be any problem with this?

Yes, I asked these to the Admissions people of UW, but they are too diplomatic.

"Next, I’ll be confirming my enrollment to UW, but chances are I may drop my plan to go to UW later on. Will there be any problem with this? "

No, other then the fact that you will need to re-apply. And if accepted, you will need to pay your nseof.

UW does not let people defer and go later.

(Also, when you apply again and look at your history they may not like the fact that you promised to go to UW by paying the fee and then back out…but maybe they won’t care…hard to say)

My first question is , if I do not get admission to CS in second year, can I transfer to CE…?
No. Admissions is pretty much the same for CS and CE, with the same admissions committee and time of the year. The only difference is the prereq. I found the advisers to be pretty flexible to change from CE to CS within the department.

…one sheet of paper in the package that lists all courses…
Are they prereq requirements into CS? Was there any more information on the pages? I personally didn’t have this in my welcome packet so I can’t really say given just this info.

As travelgirl said, no. You won’t get your NSEOF back though (Worth the price if you get into the school in your country though!).

So, you mean I can change my major to CE from CS if I meet the former’s pre-reqs?

Just talk to the advisers and then explain how you want to switch from CE to CS. Unless there is some problem that they bring up, they can fill out the change of major form for you. Getting into CE is as difficult as CS though, but once you get your foot in the door, things should be more flexible.

Scanned Sheet
This means that from whatever you took in high school, you didn’t take enough ‘fine arts’ classes. Basically during your first year at UW (or you can take the course at a community college or something), you have to take some fine arts class (examples listed in the letter). If you don’t do that within your first year here, your admission is essentially rescinded.
