CS/CE Direct Admits

If you have notified of direct admission, please post when and in what form you were notified. I noticed a lot of applied for CS/CE and are filling up other threads with "i got pre-science, what does this mean?". I want anyone who has been notified by email/mail/ etc of direct admission to post here since I have yet to see some post that they were admitted. Maybe (hopefully) this year's welcome packets dont say it and there is still hope for the rest of us..

I checked my unofficial transcript on 3/19 and it had updated to ‘Computer Science’. I got the welcome packet in the mail today (3/22), which also indicated Computer Science as major. I have not received an email or a mail directly from the CSE department.

@ccer1234 what were your stats? Any programming experience??

I am just wondering, is it worth going if you got accepted but not through DA? That is the pre-science major when applied as CS?

Is there a significant difference between DA acceptance and regular, in terms of getting your degree after 4 years?

4.0 GPA, 2390 SAT, I’ve done independent projects (some in teams) for programming (mainly in Java/C#, but also some web dev in HTML/Javascript) and done programming for VEX robotics. I’ve taken AP Comp Sci as well.

@ccer1234 way to go! You definitely deserve it! Congratulations! I can’t say I deserve it once compared to you! Hope to see you and UW, and hopefully one day in the CSE department!

@UniversityHugger I am kind of debating this too. Although my dream has always been to go to UW, so I probably will. I got pre-science too but have finished all pre-reqs through dual-enrollment / running start. I’m just going to take 300-level Math courses and finish the Engineering Physics series until applications open for spring. I might even take a couple non-Major versions of the CS courses. If I still don’t get in, I will likely major in Applied Math or liberal arts (I love sociology and linguistics) while taking all of the non-major CSE courses.

I do know that the acceptance rate is approximately 28% for regular admission and their avg gpa is around 3.75. But after getting your degree, there is absolutely no difference. I might even say, although not to EVERYONE, that regular admission is sort of better because SOME DA students have zero programming experience and might regret it later. But if you take the time to go through regular admission, you will have more time to try other majors.

So basically, if you don’t do well for the courses which are your prereqs, then you are screwed in terms of declaring your major? Like I might do swell on the computer science aspects, but get downright hideous grades in terms of calc 2/3 or English comp.
