Accepted Today But No Offer

I received my acceptance letter today but nothing about schlorship money was mentioned. Other letters I have received included the schlorship offer. I am from Illinois and was expecting around $5k/yr. Does Iowa State include schlorships in the Acceptance Package I am to receive "in a week" or should I getting nothing

Well when I got accepted into University of Iowa I was notified of my scholarships.

Bummer!!! I was on the fence between Iowa State & Minnesota. M & D are pushing for the Big Ten school we the handy airport access. I want ISU. That merit aid would have tilted in ISU’s favor. Minnesota being $2k less expensive for OOS students makes it a no-brainer.

I am not sure, but I really think my academic scholarship letter came at a different time than the acceptance letter.

Yes, I seem to recall son’s acceptance letter came pretty quick and merit scholarships came later.

Jasper & MM, you are correct. Today I received a Third acceptance letter. This one had big red letters on the outside of the envelope: Schlorship Offer. They’re offering me $7,000/yr…Whoo hoooo!!!

Very nice, Cigarzan. Congratulations!

Also, make sure to check scholarship opps for your college or school of interest (within ISU). I’m no expert, having made just one trip to ISU, but they told my son and I (who was looking at the ag school for biology) that they have money in addition to the university money (which is your 7k). He pitched it as very accessible and easy to get. So check out your program’s scholarships in detail.

Cigarzan, congrats!
Its really exciting to receive those acceptance letters and scholarships.

I’m obviously biased towards ISU, but keep in mind UoM makes scholarship awards as late as April-May, so you still may have a tough decision ahead.
Weigh your opportunities carefully and choose the best fit for you.
Good luck.

I really don’t expect to get any type of offer from UoM as my stats are pretty much dead center of the “Mid 50% of accepted applicants”. However, I do find it interesting that UoM only charges a $4,000 surcharge to OOS’s and ISU’s offer to me of $7000/yr reduces their OOS surcharge to exactly $4000. They really know their competition.

ISU does promote that the colleges and departments have seperate scholarship opprotunities. Which college are you entering? I got a scholarship from the College of Ag. I know that college has $1.5 million in scholarships and they try to give more smaller, $1500 scholarships and that the application puts empthesis on leaderships/activities. I have heard that the Chemistry department also has a lot of scholarships.

mm99…I’m in Mechanical Engineering

Sorry, I don’t really know much about the college of Engineering. You should be able to find any scholarship info on the website of that college.

DS got accepted and then a week later got scholarship offer. We are OOS. I was surprised they offer any money to OOS students!
