Accepted, wanting to drop a class

I've been accepted to UCI which is what I wanted(It is close to home, don't ask why I didn't go for LA or B)
3.51GPA and probably a 3.6 by transfer time.
contract says I must maintain a 2.0 this semester and a 2.8 overall both of which are non issues.
no courses must be completed.

I want to drop public speaking which I was taking for the CSUs. I don't need it, I'm in 19 units, I work a lot and I'd rather devote the time to sleep, helping my parent's business or my own sanity(roughly in that order)

where would I go to find out if this is OK? provide links or phone numbers if possible.

I dropped a CSU class I didn’t need after I was accepted to UCLA, as long as it doesn’t impact your required number of units/pre reqs you should be fine… consider one thing though, although that class is not a pre-req for your major to be admitted, you should look to see if it is a pre-req for some random class you may want to end up taking at UCI. Personally I took a useless speech class at a CC and it turns out it fulfilled a Poli Sci prereq I needed for my minor!

so 99% chance that i’d be fine and that I can safely drop the course and that even if it were an issue I could kick, scream and have it reviewed later.

I think I’ll take the W(only have one other so it shouldn’t be a huge issue, I hear one W a year is OK for most purposes and the last I had was when I was 16, now i’m 21) and just enjoy life a little. nothing to do with my major… I’ll have well over 70 transferable semester units…

any non-major related classes I’ll be taking will be math and/or financing though. I don’t see a need for public speaking anywhere.

Speech is such an easy class. Just stick with it dude.

****** prof who poorly explains things though and it’s cutting into my sleeping pattern, I close at work and my next earliest class that day is 3 hours out and that would help.

i hated public speaking i dropped it 3 times before i actually completed it…and it was an online course so when we had to give our speech it was in front of 3 people at most.

i dont blame you for wanting to get out of it. but chances are it is a vital class because in careers especially in promotion decisions, they want people who can communicate.

you know give reports and presentations and such.

Why not just W it? If you don’t have any Ws in any other terms, 1 won’t hurt you, especially since you’re already in AND it’s a class you don’t even need. I’ve always said, if you’re going to get a B or a W, do it in the LAST semester! It’s not even an influencing factor in the decision!

I’ve already given speeches at school and at work for a while now, the rare slip up aside, I’m a very confident and more importantly competent speaker. I’m the natural group entertainer. I’ve seen CEOs give worse speeches/interviews than I.

I just dropped it via the web. I’m done. I want to enjoy life, I also want to teach myself linear algebra so that I’m prepared for math4 at UCI. called an admissions rep and was told that it probably wouldn’t matter but that it’d be best to verify via their email-based message center(which is NOT responsive)

All I am saying is that an upper division speech class sounds like an easy A.

I’ll remember that. I’m in economics though… and want to go into business management. There is little overlap.
even bus admin doesn’t have it listed.
