Drop Speech?

Should I drop speech if I don't need it for UC's anymore? I originally took it in case I wanted to go to a CSU but that looks like it won't be the case anymore. The only this I would get a W. Or should I just suck it up and finish it..?

Suck. It. Up. Especially if it’s an easy-A

i had the same question. Can one drop speech if its not a requirement for the UC?

thanks

i agree w/edelynly suck it up.

plus you get valuable public speaking experience and i kno its hard but its not that bad, just practice in the mirror and try not to say “ummm and like” too much.

I dropped it. UCI said it was OK.
that said I’m in 19 units, work and do things for my parents business on the side(and I have over 70 transferable semester units so it’s largely worthless)

speech is always a good class to have :(

not if you can’t stomach your prof’s gay accent and hand gestures and he’s created the class in the least ADD friendly way possible.

at the CC i went to, speech wasn’t a UC transferable class, which means you get nothing (short of the likely BS instruction) for your efforts.

same here.

all I got was that I should adlib less and I got slapped to an A- for it…
not bad considering I didn’t even MAKE speeches and I just did the few on the fly.

yeah, i got the same problem. I don’t like the prof :(

If you do drop, be sure to notify each campus that you applied to…

I won’t drop it. It’s a life long skill. Besides, it wouldn’t really take much time to prepare for it, right?

If you are 100% sure you’re going to a UC, then drop it.

If not, then suck it up :/

I’m taking it for this reason. I would love to go to a UC, and I know I have the stats to be accepted (as a transfer), but money-wise there is a big chance it won’t happen, so I have to be prepared for a CSU.

Speech has easily been the most useful class I have taken in college so far. We had a teacher who may have been the clone of the British lady who hosted “The Weakest Link.” She was nasty. We ended the class with 12 students after beginning with around 30. All the students who dropped got together and complained to the administration that she was too tough and that she demeaned them in front of the whole class. Eventually, the professor fought with the admin and was quitting after the semester, so everyone who remained received A’s and she brought pizza on the final day of class.

I am really glad I soldiered through the class. Now every time I have to give a presentation at school or work I know I knock that **** out of the park—and having that kind confidence only helps enhance the presentation. Looking back, I was lucky it was one of the first classes I took. I had a group presentation the other day and one of my group members was practically dieing during his segment. It was so awkward and you could feel the tension from the rest of the class. I know I would have never been quite that bad, but without having taken the speech class I probably would have thought I was that bad every time I spoke.

wish i could say the same. i would be scared to death to take a speech class. i blush(hardcore) way too easily. i have problems. lol

Speech was like the easiest GE I took. One of the more useful ones too.

eh i guess i’ll just suck it up since it isnt too hard anyways. thanks for the opinions guys
