Accepted

In reply to prettiinpink89:

They had 12000+ applications?! On collegeboard.com it says theres only a total of about 1100 freshman! Since some applies students prolly get into Ivies or other schools, im guessing that maybe a high estimate of 2250 applicants are accepted. Thats like a 18% admittance rate! That's a huge deviation from the listed 48%. I personally think that is pure insanity.

In response to coolguy06:
YEAH molecular genetics thats what I'm gonna do! we just might be in alot of classes with eachother in a few months.

no, they have to accept like 5,000 cause a lot of people get into ivies, and also a lot of people realize there's snow up there once they get admitted

18% admittance rate? Sure...if there were a 100% yield...Rochester actually has a bit of a yield problem...only 19% last time I checked.

WOW....I LOVE MY PHYSICS CLASS

We took an AP Exam as our final...I only got 60% which is equilivant to a 4, almost 5 range on the AP Exam, but I ended up getting a B in the class because of this. LAUGH

Sorry, had to rant on this...

Anyway still waiting for Rochester decision in the mail...week 2.

Are rejection letters sent later or concurrently with the acceptance letter batches?

I didn't ask. I figured doing so would be bad luck :)

to reply to people talking about yield/admits
yeah, that website prob says they have 1100 freshmen- because this year they do. but i talked to an admissions officer who said they wanted to cut back the size of the freshman class, and my acceptance letter even said "you were selected to be one in a group of about 980 freshmen". so they don't want to end up with more than that.
i wouldn't be suprised if their acceptance rate went down to 18%, especially now that they have the 25 new ivies ranking...

Nothing in the mail today ;(

It was 48% before...it won't just suddenly drop to 18%...My prediction: acceptance will maybe drop to 45%...

18% is a definite no... hahah, cornell's acceptance rate is 25%...

still nothing! but people from my school have already been accepted, it's driving me crazayyyy.

and yeah same question as a previous poster: have there been rejection letters too? are they only sending out acceptances right now? o_O because everyone seems to have been getting accepted...

Im thinking tomorrow will be the day for some people. it seems last week that they were mailed out on a Wednesday with people in Rochester receiving them on Thursday and everyone else beginning Friday

Does anyone know, did Rochester dothis last year also, send out acceptances in waves. This is pure torture for those in the last wave. My son has given up and thinks he just hasn't gotton in. This is despite having higher sats then many who have posted here and been accepted,, and having a great interview where he was told that he'd probably be offered some sort of scholarship money.

Last year UR did send acceptances in waves. I know of two waves for sure, but I would guess there were more.

No one should give up until April.

Every school wrestles each year with trying to "predict" how many applicants will actually enroll if admitted. They admit many more than desired number of freshmen. U of R's "yield" traditionally has been fairly low for a school of its caliber (25% or so). To get a freshmen class of around 1000 they most likely admit around 4000. With many schools using the common application and students applying to more schools I believe the colleges are sweating it out, if you will. It would be interesting to know if colleges have decreased their admits and increased their wait list to give themselves somewhat of a cushion

I've been accepted as well. I wish people were not so preoccupied with stats... there's no need to compare. Anyway, I'm just worried about financial aid as of right now.

The idea to comparing stats is to gauge our chances of getting in.

Anyone hear anything today?

Nothing today in CT :(

Maybe they mailed them out later in the week? It seems no one's gotten anything later than the first batch.

Turns out I was right. Their acceptance rate has dropped from 48% to 45% (says collegeboard).

No one should compare themselves purely based off numbers. Of course schools look at the numbers, but any good school will look far beyond those meaningless stats. Therefore, comparisons are unnecessary.
