I am sending good karma your way wdlan88 and thank you faline2

thanks froshtobe...if this board is any indication of prospective Furman students and Furman grads...I'm sold. good luck to you too!

Heard anything wdlan88?
Got my financial aid pacakge today and Furman gave me $14,000 in merit scholarship. I think this is good and didn't expect too much in need based (small loan stuff). So now we start the decisions and comparisons and hopefully visits. They were the last to weigh in.................

wow..great offer, and congrats. Good luck sorting out your best place to begin college in the fall!

nice offer froshtobe, congrats!

Those of us who interviewed for the Lay Scholarships will have our scholarship packages sent out on Wednesday by FedEx and we will get them on Thursday. Just 2 more days! I can't wait.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
That's many fingers crossed for wdlan88. Either way I bet you will get a nice chunk.

Oh yea, Faline2 or whomever. Is there any place close to stay that won't require we rent a car if we don't want to??? What are the close hotels etc...........

thanks froshtobe.

^ Link to list of nearby hotels and their distance from Furman. Looks like the closest one is about 3 miles.

froshtobe..so sorry but Furman is set back from a highway that leads into the North Carolina foothills and then the Pisgah Forest which is the most beautiful forested mountain area ever. Hotels and airport location require a car if your parents are with you. Otherwise, you could pay a taxi service to trundle you up to Furman if you are doing an Accepted Student overnight solo. I am sure admissions would help you figure out how to get a van service to drop you at Furman.
Re hotels. Two choices in area stand out. I prefer to stay in Travlers Rest, which is the little community just north of Furman famous for a restaurant that serves fried chicken and old fashioned vegetables in a very homey way. It is closest. The Hampton and the Sleep Inn are relatively new. I have stayed in the Hampton...very nice place.
Or the other good option would be to stay downtown to see what Max Heller (namesake for Furman's well known volunteer corps) and associates did to revive Greenville Back in the Day...building a very European sort of center in front of the Hyatt where people hang out to eat, drink coffee and socialize..very trendy. And there are thousands of Europeans living there with tire and car factories. The Hyatt is where all the Furman Reunions are held for Alum. Max is a long term Trustee of Furman and was Mayor of Greenville when I was there. I am unsure of the Westin's location but downtown would give you a more accurate picture of Friday nights as a Furman student than Travelers Rest will.

Furman is pretty glamorous right about now as it is in October every year with everything in bloom.

My son and wife stayed in Travelers Rest at the Hampton Inn and thought it was fine (unfortunately they didn't get the lowdown on the restaurant).

Hollingsworth Scholarship: 25k/year + 1 time study abroad $1000 stipend
SC Palmetto Fellows: $6700/year
SC Tuition Grant: $2800/year

wdlan88

Well the amount is fabulous. That means for the Hollingsworth you are one of only maybe 20 of the top of the heap for Furman . What an accomplishment and hardly anything from your pocket. So while I suspect you are a little disappointed it still meets the goal. Good for Furman, good for you and what a great South Carolina program............

congratulations on your incredible offer wdlan88, and good luck making those final decisions.

Ditto wdlan88 - what a wonderful offer and I'm so happy for you!
I'm still hoping my son will think about Furman - he's really leaning toward Wake or even W & L ... but personally, I love Furman!

thanks...actually i wasn't disappointed with it...i know that the hollingsworth gave them the opportunity to use the lays and dukes for other students and most importantly: out-of-state students. either way, i'm not going to have to pay much at all.

After much thought and deliberation, I've decided to attend Furman in the fall. I'm so excited (and the Hollingsworth makes Furman really hard to turn down)! Does anyone else from CC know if they are definitely going to Furman?

wdlan88..Furman is lucky to get you, and I think you are going to love the faculty, the campus and your new peers. Congratulations. Your parents must be so proud and I know you will also make Furman proud given time and space to chart your own course.

How exciting for you! It must feel wonderful to have succeeded so well and to know that you have found a school that appreciates your achievements and really wants you. Congratulations again, wdlan, and enjoy your time at Furman!

wdlan88- Congrats on the final decision. To go there and have them offer you that kind of money and knowing you are worth it well doesn't get much better. I have finally been able to get my trip scheduled to see it so that is closer to the last step and the final decision.

Our son made it official. He will be a purple Paladin at Furman University this fall. We are thrilled. Congrats to all!
