Accepted!!

For a civil war/military history nerd like me it's also literally right next to the historic battlefield...only drawback is that it gets tons of tourists, who occasionally wander around campus for no reason...

but it's pretty nice

Where in the world is there a battlefield in Rochester??? The things surrounding the campus are:
A cemetary
A Hospital
A River
Neither of which I presume is a battlefield. And since those block the campus how would random people stop by looking at a battlefield?

how is the philosophy program there?

Just got my acceptance today. Congrats to everyone else who got in.

accepted here too!

hahahah sorry about that I was responding to a post about Gettysburg College, and I accidentally posted my response in this window accidentally (I had both windows open because I was browsing both forums, I was accepted to U.Rochester and Gettysburg today...). My mistake, there are no battlefields right next to University of Rochester, but there is one next to Gettysburg.

Sorry about that ahaha

Not exactly, but a British warship did go up the river during the War of 1812. It's actually a funny story - there were about a dozen settlers or so in the area, but the British kept seeing groups of settlers along the riverbank. What the people in the area did was wait for the ship to pass (waving as it did), get on their horses once it was far enough away, ride up ahead of the ship, change their shirts, and wave again. The British determined that there were too many people for them to hold the river, so they sailed away.

That's the closest to a battle I knew...

(BTW, I grew up in Rochester, lived there for 35 years and did my undergraduate "time" at the U of R...)

Oh, and congratulations to all you who got accepted!

Ditto with the acceptance! Congrats to everyone!

Accepted. Awesome!

I just got in today too! yay! And you're right...the folder was really complicated.

It was pretty funny actually, first I tried to rip it open and realized that I could just slide everything out of it...then my mom came home and did the same thing, that is until I explained it to her, lol.

Haha, I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one having trouble...then feeling like a total airhead after :p

umm so is it possible to find out online somehow? i'm not in the states right now and i'm dying to find out. or do you think they'd tell me if i call them?

Nope... sorry :)

Congrats to those who have been accepted! My friend got accepted a UR too she is very happy :)

hopkinslax, was that a no to my first or second question? sorry..i guess i'm a lil desperate:(

Anyone who is unsure about U of R should visit during the accepted students thing. Rochester was an afterthought for my son (he applied primarily because the application wasn't due until mid-January and free if you applied on-line). But after he visited and sat in on a few classes he decided to go to Rochester over three other schools that had originally been higher choices. He graduated this May and had a great experience there. The openness of the curriculum allowed him to focus on those classes that he really wanted to take. And the relatively small size of the school allowed him opportunities he might not have gotten elsewhere. Only thing I saw as a drawback, he saw as a plus -- it snowed when he visited in mid-April.

Good luck to all of you.

No to both... It is their policy that they will refuse to give out any info over the phone or by e-mail

Accepted. I probably won't attend, but I'm happy nonetheless.

ACCEPTED- my mom told me it came in the mail yesterday...so I'm happy...but I go to boarding school, so I haven't read it yet. Could someone give me a brief overview of what the package says in it?
